Now im not hating just saying safety aspect is BULLs**t!!!

Just look at the masters lifters whos careers have been extended by using equipment because of the protection the equipment gives them. I agree ridiculously tight equipment can cause mishaps but without equipment these masters lifters would have retired much earlier through injury.

I have to take issue with this. Knee wraps, yes maybe. But people lifting double ply in for instance, stood up with weights there barely seem to be able to stabilise and control, does not seem "safe" to me

Agree im talking about single ply and using equipment that isnt mega tight or jacked up.

31 masters lifted at the british unequipped last year protected by their singlets and wristwraps?
Pearce11/10/10 @ 20:39
So these masters clearly must train week in week out in kit never benching squatting pulling raw then, cos then they be performign the lifts "unprotected". They would just lift less that is all, it wouldnt end their careers.
I see no safety benefit at all outside of maybe soem shoulder support. but then only if it was a loose enuf shirt that u didnt have ot blow your brains out taking it down!

Ive spoken to enough masters lifters and trained with some who wouldnt still be competing, most masters dont use mega tight equipment.

I SAY HAVE TO LIFTS LIKE THE OLYMPIC LIFTING HAVE SQUATS AND DEADLIFTS ONLY. EV AND HAVE THE BENCHING AS A BENCH COMP ON THERE OWN.
AND YOU MUST SHOUT LIGHT WEIGHT WHEN YOU GO ON TO THE PLATFORM!

I'm sure kit helps many masters lifters but I'm sure there are plenty of masters lifters who don't feel it helps to keep them lifting. One of the best masters lifters I have come across is Inger Blikra from Norway (she is masters 2 next year and still challenges for gold in the open squatting and pulling close to 230kg at 75kg bwt)
She doesn't wear kit in training as she finds it beats her up too much. Interestingly she actually warms up without a squat suit or knee wraps and the first set she does with them on is her first attempt on the platform.
