they call him the streak Member 2002, 400 posts SQ 182.5, BP 130, DL 240552.5 kgs @ 100kgs UnEq | It always amazes me that lifters can get injuries like this, seemingly out of the blue, with weights they are apparently accustomed to. Hoping for a speedy recovery. Regarding the spotters there's little they could with a fail so close to the bottom of the squat. A power rack would've caught the bar, mind. I wonder how you never see racks when the weights get so high.

I wonder how you never see racks when the weights get so high. Overuse injuries are common in repitive action sports which couldn't describe powerlifting any better. Training Stimulus Recovery Period Training Stimulius Recovery Period Etc The overuse part comes in when the training Stimulus and tissue degradation that is part of that process are too intense or frequent with out adequate recovery time. So you get in a cycle where tissues (bones / tendons / muscles) don't quite repair well enough. That applied over time can lead to an acute or traumatic tissue failure. Broken Bone (stress facture), ruptured ligament or tendon. It seems to happen out of the blue but in fact it has been building up for a long period sometimes years. This is a common injury mechanism in something like dancing or gymnastics where nutrition might not be adequate and training frequency and intensity is high.

I guess that explains when an Achilles goes, seemingly out of nowhere, performing a movement you've done a million times before. I feel like a ticking time bomb now

PED usage increases the chance of ligament and tendon damage most. Most common PEDs reduce collagen synthesis which is the cause of this (these drugs also massively increase muscle size and power and the tendons do not keep up). There are some PEDs (without going into detail) that increase collagen synthesis, though. You need to get the balance right in order to be best protected from injury.
