The Arnie "Last Stand" had its moments, and Hansel and Gretel was appealingly stupid, but nothing good unless you count Django Unchained as action. In fairness it's Oscar season, not summer movies, so you wouldn't expect much. Hywel... really? Expendables 1 could have been worse, at least it looked like they were trying. But 2? Skyfall came out on DVD last week. How's that for you?

Old skool martial arts Sounds good, I like best of the best, bad but good

As to the rest, I subject we may mean different things by the same term, and as you're probably more of a fan than me I'll bow to you. Strikes me as a thoroughly old-fashioned action picture all the same (not an insult) with the emphasis firmly on martial arts rather than effects.

If you read my post, I did say that it was brainless fun, not by any means a great film. I'm not an action film fan at all, but I did like Expendables 2 because it's a very much tongue in cheek look at 80's cheesy action films. It even quotes 'I'll be back' and 'Yipee-kay-ay'
