All the tears at the end. Clearly, the title has so much value, damn right this is the greatest sport on earth. Dare I say it, Hall and Thor have made this sport so much more popular. I saw the ddip and actually felt bad for the guy at the end with he camera shoot in the tent. Truth is...he lost the title on the squat not press. I really hope he smashes it next year and Licis get a podium spot...be nice to see mum again Ed made us all proud

Member 5560, 769 posts | How much longer will Shaw carry on for? Nobody ever talks about his longevity but he has now the 5th most appearances ever in WSM, the joint most consecutive appearances and the joint 3rd most finals. He is 35. He has to be closer to the end than the beginning?

He has to be closer to the end than the beginning? I've seen in an interview that he wants 6 titles. I'd imagine he will keep going for as long as he's near the top, which is going to be for the foreseeable future. There were only 3 guys anywhere near close to winning this year so there's no sign of him slowing down yet. I think big Z will be gone before Shaw

He was pretty unlucky last year, he's since said he didn't know there was a time limit on the squat and it certainly looked like he could have done another 3 reps to me. Then again if he had to go quicker he may have tired more but I suspect he would have trained to be quicker if he knew and that wouldn't be the case, he looked strong. A couple more points on that, a couple more points in the plane pull without those weird front two wheels and he would have won even with the hamstring injury.

For me, as a casual viewer and non-strongman, I felt it was heavy on static events. There seems to be less and less of the moving stuff in recent years. Couldn't have seen Mariusz winning with those events... (Not saying that's a good or a bad thing. But I do think 50% static is a lot.)

Member 4923, 1795 posts | Gutted for Thor, but if Ed doesnt do WSM any more and Z is no longer a realistic threat, then the big Icelander is sure to nab a title in the next couple of years.

Member 5141, 4209 posts SQ 300, BP 180, DL 350830.0 kgs @ 130kgs UnEq | Really good show and a well deserved win for Ed. Shaw didnt look his best at any point, other than squat which i believe he may well have won if he had the time. Thor was incredible. 1 more rep on squat and he takes the win. On any other set of events i think Thor beats Ed. I also dont see Shaw matching him any longer, unless Brian makes a lot of progress in the next 6 months. I hope Ed keeps to his word and just floats around the sidelines now. He sacrificed a lot for this win, id rather see him ease off now than dying chasing another 1 or 2 titles.

Squatting isn't doing my back any good. Member 5108, 869 posts SQ 170, BP 125, DL 210505.0 kgs @ 93kgs UnEq | Does anyone else think that the new era of super heavy athletes and super heavy events is a bit extreme? Seeing multiple competitors needing oxygen after events, crashing out at the end of events (eg. Loz and a few others on squat) ... and Thor’s half-paralysed face (a mini stroke?) made me feel that organisers had gone a bit too far in creating a spectacle of extreme strength just to entertain the viewers. I actually think some people will have been turned off by it. I even found myself wincing a few times during the squat. Otherwise fantastic coverage. Great to see some coverage of the history of the sport too. Maybe 2018 is the right time for another evolution in strongman?

THor has bells pallsy. It has zero to do with lifting. If you don't fall over after a max rep set on squats at Worlds you aren't trying hard enough imo.

Its bad enough lifting at a local comp at 140kg with a very british 25°c let alone being 180kg+ in (probably) 35-40°c
