I'd add Jenny Warner into the top ten u63kg females, she trains with me and she just messaged me and she's leading at the US world's Strongest Woman after day 1

no u175lb/u80kg strongmen should be included on tht list apart from the exception of arram (who competed at euros i think) and maybe shane cos he made it to worlds tht year but other than that the u80's is barely a class in England lack of exposure and a calling for heavy weights makes the u80's in this country hard to compete in i noticed this at the u80 comp i did this year taking myself out of the picture the max deadlift was 240 and a hell of a lot of guys on 200-220 max overheads hovering around 85-95 (i think Graham smith had a 110 from racks on a bar maybe) guys struggled with 250kg yokes and only 4 people finished the overhead medley.

The demand for heavy heavy u80 comps is appealing to AFEW u80's in this country maybe 10 but even if we gathered the 10 best in the country realistically people throw names around but who's actually interested in competing in u80 in the heavy comps

mike neale - maybe forced out of retirement if he could stay injury free
flash - pretty sure he'd be game
the guy who finished 2nd in 2012 - dont know what hes upto now
rick halliday (PTS u80 champ) - in im sure
Graham smith (pts 2nd place) - same as above
araam - ??? think hes happy in u90
shane - cant see he has any interest
shaun vause - in
minibig - maybe

the names are off the top of my head but i mention those that would see a 300kg yoke 250kg deadlift 110 ish log 100-120 loading 120-130 farmers and not be intimidated (obviously iv forgot some people) but is tht the depth of the NATIONAL level in this country for the u80's ?!?!?!? about 10 people half of which probably arnt interested in competing.

And of the listed names on a strongman basis who would be competitive on and international level IMO only shane and araam who of which probably wouldnt compete so if englands goes ahead (which if anyone has any details on id be grateful Happy ) the potential guy to go would IMO be flash for the simple fact hes the only active sm in the cat who actually competes and would be the front runner but if we are to go on rankings i only know of one u80 comp this year and Rick Halliday won that so he is he the country's best this year?

The fact is the u80 as a category is small and is too diverse between the top guys and the demographic u80 in this country as an example mike wanted to run bsm 2013 and events were

110kg log for reps
150kg stone carry
keg toss
max deadlift
max stone load
180kg squat for reps

and out of 20 guys only 4 were willing to compete and the majority found it too heavy to run an u80 comp the weights will be easy to the top guys and they would rather test themselves against the u90's i.e look at flash 2nd at st ives and englands finalist i just feel like the u80's needs to be open and more organisers need to hold more u80 comps just to get the ball rolling so to speak and take a chance hold 3-4 comps maybe a league or something north-mids-south and finals i dunno just ranting

Good post. Looks like moving up to under 90 would be a good choice!

Next year flash will be the #1 u80kg Strongman

He's the only man in UK that can comfortably make 80k and keep his strength and has all round strongman ability !

Heard it here first!

I Shouldn't be ranked at u80kg. Although my numbers are by far the highest Happy they were done at 83ish kg. now I proberly won't go under 88.

Great post.

Can confirm i was there at that comp and my deadlift and overhead was in the poor range decribed.

There needs to be more medium level comps in this country for u80kg as often you go to something like bigger stronger faster and it's 60kg log for reps and 60kg farmers which is stupidly light. (Although good for when it was my first ever comp and i got 3 reps on the 60kg log.)

Englands is going ahead. At PTS. June. 300kg Yoke, think 100 or 120 farmers, Max log, truck pull etc.

There's also Arnolds qualifier in 4 weeks or so. Max Log and deadlift. You should go and win the deadlift at least. Wink
