Did a session at BAC gym today to be in the company of other more experienced powerlifters.Had a great session particularly with a couple of 16/17 year old doods. For those of you that may not be aware the weights shifted by M6/7 powerlifters is on a par with the 16/17 group.Difference is they go out clubbing after training and I go home for a cup of cocoa and an early night.Happy
It went like this
50x8
60x8
70x3
80x1
90x1 (paused)
80x5x4x4x4x4
60x8
Pleased to get the strict 90 again used one of the doods cap...back to front for this one Cool
Finished up with face pulls and for the first time plate raises as recommended by my new training pals. A nice change for me and I will be going to this gym a lot more now....Wicked

Its a period of compromise for me right now as shot/discus titles have to be hopefully retained. There is a need to ease up on the weights to do well, but I dont want to miss out too much as Bradford isnt far away now. With this in mind I made a late entry to the S/E Singles qualifier even though I had made it earlier at Birmingham.Object was to gather more competition experience and to find out where I am.With a qualifier already in the locker I opened with 87.5kgs to set a new British raw M6 record at 82.5 I followed this with a second lift of 90kgs to further improve it.Lift three I was unable to lock out....Pleased with it all but why am I pissed at missing something I have done in training last week?.
Bench
50x8
70x3
80x2
85x1 pause
87.5x2
82.5x4x3x3x3x3
75x5
50x10
3x face pulls
Felt flat at the start but got it done...Will up the weight a tad next week

75x5
50x10
3xface pulls
Felt a bit flat today but picked up as it went along Will raise the weights a tad next heavy day

Stop stealing words from my log!Wink About 6 of us had the same sensation at the raw bench last week! You are not alone. Look forward to meeting you in Bradford, and good luck with the throwing stuff.

Point taken Martin!...To be fair that record needed a shunt to make it respectable, and I was hoping to go a bit further with it before I ease up a little bit for my other stuff....Heres a little side story on the day....My recent training d00d was also at this meeting ...and oldest and youngest both got national records!!...Ashamed to report that the little bugger and I were involved in high fives Grin Embarassed

The past four weeks have been all competition...Two bench press, one shot put and one discus. So heavy weight training not in the plan.Hope I have not lost too much.
Won all but the discus.. lost by a metre, but it was a competition PB so not bad...Let up a bit with the weights but still felt sluggish with the throws ...need to wind down and do speed work and technique.
Turned down all other track stuff now till after British Singles...Looking to do some sensible preperation with the limited time ahead.
So today I came into the gym with a "see how it goes" frame of mind and to set a marker down for what I ought to be doing on the run up to Bradford.
Nothing out of the ordinary ...Bench
50x10
70x3
80x1
87.5x1
90x1 paused
80x5x5x4* *no spotter
Speed work 3x close 3x wide 3x normal
If any experienced benchers drop by.... could they let me know if its ok to do the speed work after a session like this or should they be carried out independantly?
Getting ready for a heavier session with more volume (for me) Monday

I have been playing catch up with training...what with slowing up a bit for track/field, plus
a week s holiday away.I did do a session in the hotel gym, but no free weights and they were more interested in signing you up for sauna and facial massage etc.Entrance to the gym was through the ladies hairdressers!
BENCH
50x10
70x3
80x1
87.5x1
92.5x1
92.5x1(bit of a pause)
87.5x2(no spotter for three..almost went for it)
82.5x4x2(stopped as I felt a bit of tennis elbow in left arm)
80x4( feeling elbow a bit)
50x10
Pleased with the two big singles but would have liked to see my reps a bit higher on the other work. Not sure what it means but whats there is there for the mext couple of weeks.,and no training is going to alter much........ Last heavy session till Bradford so a chance to rest my elbow
Competition Sunday S/W Divisionals ...Then a week off till Bradford

Arrived 15mins early for weigh in but there were several others ahead of me including a few Quins rugby players/weights coaches who were great to talk to and lifted well.
As there were only two other benchers it was around four hrs before I got to lift. Have to say I felt a bit flat on warm up.So flat that I failed my opener at 87.5 ...uneven lift, can 3 rep this in the gym!
Asked for 91kgs for 2nd which was ok. Went for 92.5 on third got it up but failed on moving a heel.
The 91kgs was a competition pb. The odd barweight was to have the honour to be on the same records page as the great John Gallagher who is a legend in these parts. Its my good fortune that the bench was his weakest lift as he still holds the British squat and deadlift records(M4)....220 DL raw at 70 ffs!
Talking of Deadlifts it was great to see our own Paul Richards doing so well ...good squatting also.
I might do a bit of form work tomorrow with very light weights to try to correct my foot fidgeting!!
Then rest up till Bradford
