Do you need to book in to train? Do you have to wear a mask? Obligatory PCR/Antigen tests all the time?
I'm selling up. Moving back to London this Saturday.

The price of bread has gone from 1 to 5 lira. Flour was 90 lira a sack around summer, now 300. Fuel has only gone up by 100%. I am spending money to work in the gym. I'll be trousering cash in London, paying NI and Pension, then spending a fraction of my wages in Cyprus whilst on vacation Grin

Edit: Just looked at the news and there's been ANOTHER price hike made by the state-owned milk guys. 4 Lira around the start of summer, new price is 13 lira. Nice little 330% increase.

Minimum wage is the same, and almost all employers pay minimum wage or thereabouts. 5000 lira is a bit over minimum wage, and works out to 166 lira a day. Fish and chips for one person, without even a drink, is 205 lira.

Zero restrictions on gyms at the moment. May change in the coming weeks.

Bummer to miss Nan funky Xmas Tea Time posts. I'm not looking forward to hearing about beef Wellington, pickeld egg vinegar chips and Jellied Eels on 24 December... Can you bring her to England?

That inflation sounds incredible. Europe seems to be headed towards an interest rate hike to curb inflation. Rents, property, fuel and building goods all rising everywhere. Fixed rate mortgage time for me.

Safe flight.

Thanks, Luki. My nan was born in a village and will pass away in the same village, and be buried there. She won't leave her chickens or vegetable garden to be stuck in a house. She's 91 in May and is still out there planting her own stuff, baking about 10 loaves of bread at a time in a big outdoor clay oven. I attribute her longevity and vigour to her lifestyle. I'm probably going to retire to Cyprus for good once I've saved up a decent chunk over in London.

There were some tax issues with the closure of the gym, so it's not officially closed, which means I can probably still pay my pension over here. I've got about 9 years of work under my belt in the UK, with the minimum required for UK pension being 10 years. Each year after that pays another £5 a week which is £22 a month. 15 years gives me £80 a week which isn't too bad for Cyprus. God knows what north Cyprus will be like in one year though.

Pissed doesn't begin to describe how I feel. The cretins were told I NEED MY PCR TO FLY. So they put my north Cyprus ID number on the PCR test. I got to check-in, was told this micky mouse thing isn't worth the paper it's written on. I got to rapid-testing at 19:07 and was told it closed 7 minutes ago. I have returned to the empty gym 3,500 lira poorer. Might book another ticket from the south, might book from the north. LIVID.

The pcr is good for 72hrs. Antigen only 48hrs. Make sure your flight and tests have the same validityHappy
