I have no idea why I wrote it that way. I was told by someone I used to work with, who had previously worked as a proof reader, that you should write numbers 0-9 as words but 10 and above as numbers. I don't know how true that is or if she just made it up

Whenever I have researched this on the interweb it has more or less confirmed what your friend said. It depends on the publishing house but the more common rule being as 0-9 and then ten and up, the alternative, and less common being 0-19 and then twenty and up.

Personally in the gulag I called school we were told that we should write as words any number that could be written as two or fewer words, so one, two, three, forty nine, one hundred, two thousand, twenty million etc. However if more than two words were needed eg one thousand, nine hundred and sixteen then 1916 was the way to go.

It would also be true to say that I have never met anyone else who has been taught this method and that there were acceptable exceptions (as alluded to by Wayne) but these would be to numerous to mention, but we all know they are out there.

A quick 3.

A slightly laborious yet very satisfying four. The third was tactical and very pleasing as it took a while to come up with it.

The opener yielded my least favourite outcome when the letters fall in the manner that they did.

That doesn't like much to go on, but a stern look with a furrowed brow produced a "Ah, of course" which was correct

At the very first contest I attended, having never previously met any of the NWPL or Adlington regulars:
- Pete smuggled a mobile 'phone into a prison
- Turner sank a squat to the bottom, forgot what to do next, and rolled over on to his back frozen into position (bar and all)
- Bryn walked a squat out and stood there shaking for thirty seconds until the side ref beckoned him back in, the centre ref having fallen asleep.

It's really a surprise I ever got involved.

Minimal scribbling, my first idea was fruitless, my second fruitful

I remember it well, and I still can't believe I did not see the biggest "NO MOBILE PHONES" notice I have ever seen (although only on the way out), but I didn't. Honest officer, I just didn't.

Four letters, none in the right place, and it took a long while to get a handle on this. Actually I sat and stared for a good few minutes and got nowhere, then I wandered into the kitchen to make tea and while filling the kettle the penny dropped.

Friday will be wordle number 1,000. I wonder if it will be just another day or if they have something cunning planned ?

Three for me. Usual openers and a slightly speculative third, but not a gamble in terms of potential overall failure.
