It's very kind of you to mention mine and Mr. Felix's deadlifts in the same sentence in the same sentence, but I am not sure that you should. He really is quite remarkable on the deadlift front, jaw-droppingly strong.

Woke up this morning thinking it was Friday, lay dozing in bed generally thinking Friday thoughts, then suddenly realized that I deadlifted yesterday, my slightly sore hands confirmed this and then the joyous penny of reality dropped. It's Saturday. I love it when that happens.

It is highly likely that as of next Sunday I shall use Sundays to do some shoulder work that excludes pressing. It has been absent of late and I feel that it would be beneficial to re-introduce it.

Now I think about it, I am fairly sure that Mr. Jabba competed up near Hadrian's wall this weekend. He doesn't have a log that I know of so I will allow him to publish a full and frank account here.

I was a lazy t**t but true to my word. I did my 3 lifts,175/125/175 to qualify for the British. 3 attempts and job done.

The comp was help at a miners welfare centre in Ashington which was superb. The warm up room was in the gym, equipped with about 12 Eleiko bars, literally tonnes of Eleiko plates, both bumpers and plain and at least 4 warm up racks.....Heaven.

The comp room was a large, bright community room with plenty of seating for spectators and competitors. The reffing/officating and loaders were great, very efficient and the platform equipment was top notch.

Pete, the best part was the cafe inside the centre, offering a full breakfast for £4.10 and slices of cake about 1/6th the size of the complete cake I baked you. A large capuccino coffee was only £1.60.

There was some damn fine lifting (not from me), including Chris Cooper doing a first ever 650 total and some really good performances from the first time lifters. The cameraderie amongst the lifters was damned good with pleanty of banter.

All in all, a brilliant comp and a very enjoyab;e debut with the GBPF.

I envy you that cafe. I am delighted that you enjoyed it so. Powerlifters are the world's friendliest people. That's a fact.

What did you weigh in at ?

I'm not that sure, Jabba is very old but not as old as me. Martin1956 is as old as me give or take a month or two. Off the top of my head that's about it for the fifty-odds.

It's an excellent idea that you train, but your son is possibly not the best person to train with. I am guessing that he is in his mid twenties and therefore has no idea what is involved in being your age. He is young and fearless and still has excellent powers of recovery. You are not, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Don't get me wrong, you are good for a good while yet but you should concentrate on not getting injured and keeping a "steady as she goes" attitude to it. I wish you the best of luck with it.

Now you mention it I believe this to be quite correct. I recall when I started this log Mr. Finch (fine fellow that he is*) welcomed me as another fifties lifter.

*So fine a fellow that one time, at attending a comp at his home venue, he supplied me with cups of tea and a secret supply of buscuits and a rather fine t-shirt that I wear with pride to this day. He has also attended, with due reverence the holy place that is Adlington. In short Mr. Finch is a very fine fellow indeed.
