Couple of questions about the weightlifting at the Olympics.

1.Why when the adidas logo on lifters leotards is allowed do lifters have to put tape over the three stripes?

2.Just watched the BBC coverage of the 105kg - during the warmup before clean & jerk was that Bernie Ecclestone from F1 in the warmup room?
AvatarRob
Don't have the answers to your questions I'm afraid Steve, but the winner of the 105s was very impressive.

200/236 for a 436 total - that was a world record snatch, clean and jerk and total. At 20 years old.

The supers is on tomorrow but apparently Rezazadeh isn't lifting, yet again.
Steve
It was fantastic lifting, particularly at just 20 years old.

it apparently was Bernie Ecclestone being shown around

loved that flight, was a good build up and raising bar tactics came into play when folk started attacking the total of then-silver-medalist and changing their lifts accordingly.

huge individual achievements there as well, nice lifting indeed.

Yep, it was a great comp!
PhilKlidaras
Steiner for the win in the supers or maybe the Latvian

I believe it is because the olympics is an amateur sporting event and displaying the 3 stripes is seen as advertising. (dont hit me with any wrath. It all involves too many sporting bodies for me all of which I have a deep hatred for)

Money talks and bulls**t walks eh? shouldnt be anyone in the warmup room except event officials, team officials and lifters.
Steve
Actually found an answer to the stripes - corporate logos are not allowed to exceed 20square centimetres according to IOC rules

The bit I loved* was in one of the women's flights - I think the SHW, but not sure - when the president of the IWF was backstage being introduced to the lifters WHO WERE STILL LIFTING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FLIGHT! Shaking hands, kissing cheeks etc. I mean, if any f**ker should know better...

* by "loved" I meant "the initial disbelief soon gave way to incoherent rage"

What an incredible 105+Kg final!

The Eurosport commentators reckon that Steiner's final clean and jerk for the win was a PB by 12Kg!

Absolutely amazing!!!
AvatarCuddles
A guy on another board predicted Steiner for gold about 4 months ago. Would have got good odds!

My highlight of the weightlifting so far was Mish telling Rob and Joni in the chat room who had won, when they were watching it 'as' live. Nice one Mish Grin Wink Grin
AvatarJoni
i knew the result beforehand and it was still absolutely amazing final to watch!!!

full on edge of the seat s**t!

I have to say the bbc coverage was s**t, not on at the times they said, no explanations for anything that happened. Absolute s**t.
