Thought I'd post the link as I am sure many unequipped lifters would like to see the standard across the pond and with BWLA's meet this weekend.

As a 75kg lifter the results in the 75kg Open Class were impressive, the winner with a 540kg total, but comparing myself to the guy of the same age who got a 450kg total Im feeling quite good about my numbers. Not that I really bother about winning comps, its just interesting to compare yourself to other lifters who are at a similar level.

The 125 catergory looked awesome, winner gets an 800kg total, second place gets 795kg. Went down the last deadlift as well.

Interesting results and good to see so many lifters.

However these are the US Nationals. You would expect the winners to be some of the best unequipped lifters in the World. I don't think that any of the best equipped lifters would have the slightest trouble easily winning in this if they had wanted to.

What this shows is that most of the best powerlifters are still not interested in lifting unequipped

OK I'll rephrase that - the results don't look particularly good to me, especially as in the USAPL unequipped, knee sleeves, including the Inzer Knee Sleeve are allowed

Fair. Do the knee sleeves give much then?

To be fair. This is the US Nationals. Which means that its a hell of a long way to travel for all but a few. I doubt this is the extent of the talent pool in the US.

Who will be first to make a Paul joke? Grin

That's just sooooooo not fair! Everywhere in America (not Alaska and Hawaii) is within about 4 hours of everywhere else, thanks to cheap, regular internal flights. So, in real terms, Bournemouth to Ashington is FAR further to travel, at least until Ashington International Airport gets finished.

Yes! Bournemouth to Bradford took me 6 hrs. There were two sets of roadworks plus a couple of pit stops so it could be done quicker.....Its the early weigh in times that can add to the costs as an overnight stay is pretty much a requirement for anyone travelling that far....and if the meet is a big one by the time the presentations are over its a late drive home or another night in digs.
Its no problem for me, but those who have jobs to get back to on a Monday morning or are a bit strapped for cash may find they have to choose their competitions to carefully.
That said,a national competition would be top of most peoples list I would have thought......
Also to be fair our US friends do have the benefit of an extensive affordable (to most)airline network.....however their connection may involve a longish commute to the airport and the flight may not always be a direct one to their destination,so some people could be looking at a long day.
