A slightly frustrating five. Had a 50/50 on the fourth guess. Gut said to go for one answer, brain said another. Should have let the gut be the master.

A relatively easy five

There was much confidence behind my fourth which turned out to be misplaced and slowed my gallop rather, not for too long though. The other option soon followed, so just the one small bump in a relatively smooth road today

Wiganers appear proud of the “Pie Eaters” label, however, the origin of it is probably unknown to most.
At some point in the past both the Leigh and Wigan Coal Miners went out on strike, eventually the Wigan miners broke the strike and went back to work; and as a result were forced to eat humble pie. This is where the Pie Eaters label came from, so originally a slur rather than a statement of pie eating pride

You are correct as usual young Wigan. The name lives on but the origins are forgotten. Very few Wiganers would consider it an insult these days. So one could argue that it is no longer one.

It's a poor insult that fails to offend.

I have a problem. I was having a very lengthy think between attempts 2 and 3 as I was stumped, but then my phone became unresponsive and I rebooted it, and Wordle reset. The trouble is, I can't remember what words I had entered! I had 3 yellows. I think I'll sit this one out. My stats were screwed recently anyway due to another technical glitch...

I love the tale of how Westhoughton, a town next to both Leigh and Wigan, got the nickname 'Keawyeds' ('Cow Heads' to non-lanky speakers)

You dont have a standard opener? Dont let your streak reset Wayne. Wordle shafted me like that before when I had a good bunch of stats built up

The shoulder screamed on the first warm up set but got quieter as they went on. It complained again when I started to add weight. Strangely the pick up hurt it a lot, the actual squats hurt it very little and the re-rack hurt it somewhere inbetween. All in all a good evenings work. Just a shame about the shoulder.

The people of Westhoughton are known as "Keawyeds" (cow heads) and the town is known as "Keawyed City". There are two local stories how this name came about. One tells that in 1815, a celebration was held to mark the end of the Napoleonic Wars and that an ox was roasted. This was mounted on a pole and was fought over by two opposing factions in the town. The victors were dubbed "Keaw-Yeds".

Another story tells that a farmer in Westhoughton found his cow had got its head stuck in a five barred gate (or fence), and rather than cut the gate, the farmer cut the cow's head off, since the cow cost less than the gate

Robbed from a website about Westhoughton. I was familiar with the second "gate" story but not the first celebration one. I seriously doubt that as many places must have celebrated in much the same way

You should definitely do it regardless Wayne. You’re not going to be cheating in any way, so go for it. As I’m a sad case, I screenshot my stats each day because I don’t trust my phone not to go haywire at some point and screw them up after such mishaps in the past.

Normal service has been resumed.... with a 4.

I don't have any standard words that I use. I like to operate more randomly. I'm not going to bother with stats. I will work on a day-to-day basis and compare my performances to others here Happy

Four for me. Finding a suitable third took me a little while and even then my choice was more good fortune than skill I think.
