Hyper obese Pete Member 70, 17921 posts SQ 322.5, BP 205, DL 300827.5 kgs @ 133kgs Eq | Monday, 27th August, Bank holiday, start 15:00 Bench, very raw but with squat boots on 20 x 15 20 x 15 20 x 15 40 x 5 50 x 5 60 x 5 70 x 5 80 x 5 90 x 5 100 x 5 100 x 5 100 x 5 100 x 5 100 x 5 85 x 5 The last rep on all the 100s was paused, and this was a bit more difficult than I had imagined it would be, not overly hard per se, but harder than I imagined. I have moved bench to Monday and squat to Wednesday as I feel it would be a benefit to me, firstly because I now get a sessions rest for the shoulders and secondly because it is a change and that is no bad thing. Close grips will be reintroduced soon, but was omitted today as I have very rapidly become accustomed to rest and slow but sure seems the wisest way to start. The squat boots are preferable to my usual pumps as they give a much firmer purchase when pushing on the feet

Hyper obese Pete Member 70, 17921 posts SQ 322.5, BP 205, DL 300827.5 kgs @ 133kgs Eq | Back in the late 80's, early 90's a friend and I use to run a quiz league, at its peak it had upwards of thirty teams in it and it ran from the first Wednesday in November to round about Easter. One day we asked the question "who played saxophone on Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street"? What prompted the question was that at the time there were three apocryphal tales doing the rounds Tale the first - Clint Eastwood was Stan Laurel's son. Not as daft as it sounds if you ever see pictures of both as young men Tale the second - The kid who played Pugsley in the 60's series of the Addams family (Ken Weatherwax) grew up to become the singer Meat Loaf Tale the third - The saxophone of Gerry Rafferty's Baker street was played by Bob Holness of "Blockbuster" fame The lad I ran the quizzes with had encyclopedic knowledge of music from that era and he didn't know. So we investigated and found the answer as that seemed a reasonable first move and one Wednesday night we asked the question for around one hundred people. No one knew In addition, it was one of those rare yet wonderful questions where no one really knew that they didn't know and the realization of this was a wondrous thing to watch. Each team took a guess and they all guessed wrong. At the end of the round I read out the answer and some nodded sagely and others just looked confused. One man jumped to his feet "Did anyone get that"? he asked "No" I replied, for I am an honest man "See"! he cried and sat down "Just a minute" I said "what do you mean See!" "Bloody daft question" he replied "Don't blame me for the gaps in your education" I said "and besides you have learned something tonight and that can never be a bad thing" He looked unimpressed by my logic "Right then" I continued "Remember that name - for I make you this promise, next season we will ask that very same question, don't know where, don't know when, but it will be asked and aren't you going to look a t**t if you don't get it right that time. True to my word we did ask it again the following season and every single person failed to remember the answer, and that was a joy to watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc6yrXjMKAY The answer is "J" for some reason I cannot embed that video but hopefully the link will work. Thank you for you attention

Hyper obese Pete Member 70, 17921 posts SQ 322.5, BP 205, DL 300827.5 kgs @ 133kgs Eq | As an aside RR was paid in the region of £30 of the afternoon's work he did recording that, he was a session man and that was the going rate at the time. Rafferty who wrote the piece made £89,000 from royalties in the last year of his life, so assuming a similar, inflation adjusted figure since 1978 and it's easy to see who did better out of it.

Every quiz person who was there that second time - every one remembers to this day, this town probably has the highest percentage of people who can name that saxophonist in England. Should that be the case, I will take half the credit for it

For the well-established cocktails, that would be http://iba-world.com This one's not quite that well-established, but it's widely available. Tesco sell it in bottles, even.

Hyper obese Pete Member 70, 17921 posts SQ 322.5, BP 205, DL 300827.5 kgs @ 133kgs Eq | Wednesday, 29th August, start 16:00 First day back at work Squat, sleeves and boots on 20 x 5 20 x 5 20 x 5 20 x 5 20 x 5 20 x 5 60 x 5 belt on 100 x 3 120 x 3 140 x 3 140 x 3 140 x 3 140 x 3 140 x 3 140 x 3 140 x 3 140 x 3 140 x 3 140 x 3 The left shoulder took longer than usual to get used to gripping the bar. But it did get easier as I went on and by the end it was just fine. I originally intended to do five sets of three but I really enjoyed these tonight and interestingly they got more and more fluent as I went on. After five sets I decided to carry on to eight and after those, to do another couple to make it ten. I had physio tonight so I mentioned the left shoulder and he hurt it and pronounced that it was a good thing. He also advised on shoulder issues and gave me a couple of exercises to improve squat depth. We also chatted about including squats on deadlift day and deadlifts on squat day. His advice really rather surprised me but I will give it a go.

Hobbies - big women and packets of crisps". Just discovered that on the North West powerlifting website. Dunno who wrote it but they know me well. Can't argue with a word of it. I may consider burial rather than cremation now so I can have a headstone with that engraved on it.
