I've been offered a bar for £50 which I suspect may be a TPB but I'm not certain.
It is black oxide coated all the way including nicely spinning collars. However, unlike the newer TPB's the collar stops about 1/2" short of the very end of the bar and has a 1/2" thick cap the same diameter as the collars held on with a grub screw. I can't see any writing on it but it is very well made and still has quite harsh knurling on despite being a few years old. I've tried googling it and it does look like an old TPB so would be well worth £50. Any help welcome.

For £50 I would take it if it seems like a good bar, even if its not a TPB.

The 'old' texas power bars were not finished and were just raw steel - So if it has a black oxide coating then it's either a newish (last 3-4 years I think) TPB or a copy.

I think that all of the official TPB from Buddy Capps do have a 'Texas Power Bar' stamp on the end caps.....

But having said that, I seem to remember the TPB I bought from Strength Shop a few years back didn't have any end caps on it at all (I've not got it anymore to check)

I'm pretty sure even 3-4 years back they were still stamped. I bought mine 2 years ago and a friend got his 3-4 years ago, both are stamped.

If it seems like a decent bar then go for it. It should be relatively thin, despite being a standard 20kg. You can feel the quality in your hands compared to a regular £80 bar.

I think Macca is right. I'll check mine tonight when I get home.

I can only speak from my experience, both mine and my friends bars are stamped. As I say; I got mine a couple years back, he got his 3-4 years back.

Edit - Though I imagine it probably depends on when the bar actually left the factory as well, if there is a difference the stamps. Happy

Milsy can correct me but I think the TPBs at Bradford Uni say Mac Barbell on the end caps.

If it has decent knurling and isn't bent for 50 quid I would buy it.
