Hello,

I'll be back in the UK within a couple of weeks, so i'd like to welcome myself back!

I will be starting from scratch. You'll be looking at the log of a guy who hasn't trained anything serious in 8 months (yes it has been that long!), don't expect a great deal. Fortunately starting from scratch isn't anything new for me, so there won't be any surprises. I've mapped out where I want to be by the end of the year, and more importantly where I want to be by April/May next year.

First month back, by the end of June i'll be at:

Squat - 160kg
Bench - 100kg
Deadlift - 180kg

Solid.

No doubt you will attack the weights like a f**king badger again.

I have no idea what Operation D.S.T.N.E.A.F.N, but I like it!

LETS GO!

I'll more likely be attending rather than competing, I think Rick.

I need a good run of training under my belt, and wouldn't really have the time to prep for a Meet this year. If I am looking realistically at my chances of competing in next years British

Ah!

In the Midlands, Derby for a wee while. Then i'll be looking for a place to do a post-grad course. Manchester unfortunately doesn't offer what i'm after! Else that would have been nice.

A PGCE in ICT.

Far as I know there aren't any available in Manchester, but if that's changed over the past year or so i'll more than likely apply.

You're quite right - the Met do business studies *and* ICT, but not the two separately. Your closest bet to here would probably be Edge Hill, which is arguably commutable from Manchester (and you could likely get placement in more local schools).

Edge Hill degrees are accredited by Lancaster University, not sure what the score on PCGE stuff is or even how important it is where you do them!

It's about 45 mins drive from Manchester.

Yeah there's Edge Hill which is do-able and they'll more than likely place me near in or near Manchester if I live there. But I didn't think much to them last time I was there, so I don't know.

It doesn't matter too much where you're accredited. School's still usually look for your Grad University.

IMO, the main thing that matters is the quality of the schools you do your placement in, and particularly the mentoring there. That's by far the most important thing, and it's very hard to assess until you're already in place.

The university-based elements of a PGCE vary from "interesting but possibly not massively useful" to "complete waste of time", and are IMO not worth worrying about. The choice of institute matters only in how well they monitor and train their mentors, and how much (or rather little) pointless paperwork they require you to turn out; I know that Manchester Uni require you to produce roughly 20% as much crap as do the Met, for example. I know (if memory serves) people who've done GTTP accredited by Edge Hill, and at least for them it wasn't horrifying.

It started today.

Thursday 31st May

Seated Press - 50kg x 1, 1, 1, 1, 4 ... 40kg x 3, 3, 3, 3, 3

Chins - BW x 6, 6, 4, 4, 4, 4

DB.Bench - 15kg's x 8, 8, 8, 8, 8

Cable Kelso's - 25kg x 8, 8, 8, 8, 8

Well, that was humbling. I'm having to type this with my arms resting on the table. Arms and shoulders are pretty numb.

Also I notice a subtle change in people's behaviour towards you when you're not the big guy in the gym, just another trainee. Maybe it's just paranoia or something.

All in all though, I feel good.

Goals for the start of July

Squat - 160kg
Bench - 100kg
Deadlift - 180kg

That's a big workload for a first session back - you're gonna be sore tomorrow! Soon be back up, though.
