It may be time to qualify the figures I give out. While they are true and not fiddled in any way some explanation may be needed.

I deplore speed and acceleration on public roads, on a track - fine but on the roads - no.
While not always successful I do try to drive as safely as I can and a major component of this is speed.
I am fortunate also in that I start and finish work early and therefore avoid the rush hours, I rarely get stuck in traffic.
On motorways generally I just tuck into the inside lane and go with the flow which is generally 50 - 55 mph. On an empty motorway I would stick around the 65 mark.
Economy is at the front of my mind, always. In fact pretty much the only negative is my weight. I do wonder what I could achieve if I were half my size. I don't wonder enough to actually lose any though.

I am also generally hated by other drivers who think that speed limits don't matter or even exist and I frequently get fists shook, lights flashed, wrists tapped (where the watch fits presumably) and fingers and "V"'s flipped. I have long ago lost count of the number on "wa**er" gestures I have received. (They far out number the real wanks I have actually had)

My old driving instructor told me that whatever I was doing I should imagine explaining it to the police in a taped interview in a quiet room. And "The fat idiot in front of me refused to break the law by driving at excess speed and insisted on driving safely, I therefore had to option but to overtake and sadly forced another car into a ditch killing one passenger and injuring all the others" doesn't sound too clever then does it ?

I remain unrepentant especially as I maintain that it is most other people rather than myself who is in the wrong.

This entry has turned out rather longer than I meant it to, and has turned into a sort of semi rant. My apologies for that and if you made it this far, thank you for sticking with it. I hope it is food for thought and as always comments are both welcomed and appreciated.

Be safe

I never questioned your numbers pete not for a second.
I suppose the difference is i drive a 2.5liter 4x4 truck often in traffic and atleast once a week towing a heavy trailer. This can mean alot of time.spent in a low gear reving high up hills.

I wasn't accusing anyone of that. I almost never lie, but I do realize that my driving habits are both unusual and beneficial to economy. I felt it was only fair to make that known.

Interestingly one foolish fellow I used to work with accused me of fiddling my figures by driving downhill too much. I did point out to him that in order to drive downhill one must be at the top of a hill and that is only achieved by driving uphill. Such logic cut no ice with him.

Lot of it depends how you drive them - high powered cars are reasonable motorway cruising at 55-65mph with no accelerations (30+ mpg even), but urban/thrashing they're appalling. used to see 4mpg briefly caning my R35 GTR (760bhp modified) from a standing start. The combination of large capacity engines, highly boosted airflow, high revs and low gears will eat fuel like nothing.

Horses for courses surely. I do thirteen or fourteen thousand miles a year, mostly on my own, occasionally with one passenger, almost never with two. Usually have a gym bag in the boot, once a week a gym bag and a Tesco weekly shop. Rarely do more that twenty five miles in one go and almost never more than a hundred.

Why the f**k would I want an eight eater people carrier or a mase-f**king-rati ?

But a mini one or a VW polo or anything that seats four, has three doors in the eighty to hundred horse power range and now you're talking.

However I fully appreciate that others buy what the want rather than what they need and that's fine to. I just don't really understand their motives but I don't need to.

I used to work with a guy of my size and build who drove a V8, 3.5 litre, petrol, automatic range rover. He did eight miles to work every day and the same home again and always in heavy traffic. He got about eight miles to the gallon and never did a man complain about the price of fuel more than he did.

"You bought the wrong car you f**kwit" was never very well received by him either. Ah well, I tried.

Good news, we are back on my beloved Greenwich mean time, for the next five months all sixty odd million of us no longer have to pretend that it is an hour later than it actually is.

Hurrah for us !

Sunday, 29th October, start 12:35

Bench, very raw

20 x 20
20 x 20
40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 5
all paused now
90 x 2
90 x 2
90 x 2
90 x 2
90 x 2
90 x 2
All smooth and as easy as you would expect

A few down today, Tess was in, as was Aaron, Turner and Glynn. Aaron was shirted benching and really didn't enjoy it. Every time I see this now it makes me so happy that I gave it all up.
When we were done all four had different reasons to not dine, so I went alone, lamb shank, mash and peas, the food was a delight but I missed the company

I know, and I know that you mean it, just as I mean it when I say it would be GMT for me all year round if I were king.

Aaron came up the possibly the best crackpot theory today concerning this, he would go one hour forward in the spring, another in the Autumn, another the following spring and yet another the following Autumn, and so on, we did point out to him that this would eventually mean that it would be dark at Midday and the sun would be high in the sky at Midnight, but he cared naught for our objections, on the grounds that if you wait long enough it will all come right again. It starts to go wrong again almost immediately but he cared naught for that either.

Unhappy

Monday, 30th October, start 16:10

Squat, boots on, sleeves on
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
60 x 3
belt on
100 x 3
120 x 3
140 x 3
140 x 3
140 x 3
140 x 3
140 x 3
Enjoyed these tonight. For the last twelve years or so I have gripped the bar as wide as I could when squatting, these means that my the outsides of my hands touches the inside of the collars. "Feathering" I believe is the technical term. Just recently it has caused me some small discomfort on the left hand. To try and alleviate this I moved both hands in by about the width of one finger. To my astonishment not only as it sorted the discomfort of the hand but it has made the entire exercise feel much better and more certain. There may be some small experimentation to extract maximum advantage from this, but if you had told me it would make this much of a difference I never would have believed it.

Boots off, sleeves off, pumps on

Deadlift
70 x 5
100 x 3
120 x 3
140 x 3
160 x 2
180 x 1
belt on
200 x 1
215 x 1
230 x f
230 x 3
Not the best of nights on these, the 215 was slow off the floor but once past the knees it flew. The 230 was an error, the bar started to roll as I began to pull so as soon as it came off the ground I knew it was amiss and I just put it down, the bar probably never moved much more than a couple of inches off the ground and under those circumstances I never meant it to. The set after was technically OK but no better than that. I held the last one for a good long while as it always helps to have that in the memory. I didn't jave the best of start positions tonight, arse too high and not enough leg. So I may try deficits or I may try pulling in my squat boots. Nothing severe but some jiggory-pokery is needed

Top inch leg extensions for knee tracking purposes
10 x 8
10 x 8
10 x 8
10 x 8
10 x 8

And that was that, a bit of a mixed bag tonight, nothing to worry about and something to get quite exited about, lets see what Friday brings

I was in last night from four o'clock onwards and there was not a single trick or treater.

I do hope that horrible American nonsense is dying out.

I get the impression from parents I know that the done thing now is only to knock if there's a pumpkin on show or similar.
