As world's has started thought I'd make a thread, we all know the end result but watching it is the best part :-)

1st qual thought the standard was quite poor on some of the events, overhead and deadlift to be specific. Also, the Loading medley seemed very light! Even lighter than the loading medley at the brits u90! Lol

2nd qualifier (Hungary) was good to watch, 3 things stood out for me, firstly end halls strict pressing on the viking press, bit stupid thant he stricted every rep and didn't win but impressive non the less. 2nd was the small lad (118kg) finishing 3rd, for his size he was unreal! Smallest athlete to qual for world's? And finally, when mike Burke was asked if he could win world's, he said no, it's nice to see a realistic outlook

Thoughts?

i think ed halls mobility seems to have improved also?!
maybe the quality of the Australian comp was lacking due to jet lag? I tried training a few days after arriving in new Zealand and struggled with my usual warm up!

Eddie looked the best I've seen him on yoke, although think he may have given up to early on the Viking Press

I thought tonight's outside the top 4 or so was pretty poor also. Vast contrast to europes tomorrow which also only offers 3 qualifying spots.

Remember Burke trains with Brian so knows exactly what he is up against

Nick Best and Warrick Brant each had pretty nasty looking falls and were lucky not to get badly hurt. Pounstone said that was his first win since 2010 which I found surprising. Havent seen the Atlas stone to the shoulder before, wasnt a great event tho imo.

I just watched them both back to back on demand 5.
Link to tonights if people missed it.

The quality seemed a lot higher at the Hungary comp. Especially the ridiculous repping of the Viking press. I thought Eddie safely had it then Burke and that small guy got even more.

And Burke made that Rock loading look so easy at the end. Was crazy.

Even though he won, I thought poundstone looked pretty shot, mentally and physically. I can see why he never took up his place at wsm.

he'd just been on a pretty long flight shortly before that popped a bicep in a comp he'd sacrificed 4 month + for and has nothing to show for it but a another long term issue , Id say he did well to turn up never mind win it comfortably lol

I thought the stone to the shoulder wasn't judged very well, not that I know much about that event but alot of the reps only looked like it was to the top of their chest rather than shoulder, nick best especially

Looked like Nick got some special dispensation. Either due to injury or mobility. Either way, I don't think it was particularly fair.

i thought the overall competition was poor in both comps really. well not exactly poor i just expected it to be higher standard for wsm quals when u look at the likes of euros where over half the field are wsm finalists.

always enjoy watching ed and looks stronger/better every time.

Agree completely.

Bjorne Solvang was brilliant though I thought, he could go far.

The event with the implement toss (whatever it was) was funny, Mike Burke didn't even look like he was trying! I know he had a massive height advantage but still. Ed hall and a few others looked like they would have done better if they took a step forward, they looked to much under it.

FitEx was crap, Hungary was much better. Really enjoyed it!
