Does anyone know what you drugs you get tested for when going to work in Abu Dhabi. I know they do blood tests for HIV, Hep C etc but also been told they test for drugs. Also what are the consequences of failing the drug test i.e jail or deportation.

are you workin offshore? my drug test for saudi arabia tested for all recreational drugs and hardcore pain killers. some steroids might show up but if you said you had a cold and took anti biotics for chest infection you'll be grand. they also check alcohal levels so lay off the beer for a week if its high they might think you have a dependency/addiction problem. if you get caught with drugs rather you than meConfused

they are seriously strict on drugs of any kind and what might be a legal painkiller here is often years in prison over there.

Who is 'they'? I've bought painkillers in the UAE that arent even legal here.

The original question is regarding Abu Dhabi, which is part of the UAE, it's a state like Dubai. My best friend works and lives in Dubai, he didnt get drug tested at all, but the states have different rules on these things, I can get him to find the exact rules for Au Dhabi if you like?

Saudi and Abu Dhabi are two completely different places too. Saudi is a country, Abu Dhabi is a state in the UAE. Its like comparing Italy and Spain.

I'm out in Abu Dhabi six or so times a year - there are supplement shops on every corner, but all very similar to GNC and Holland and Barret.
Quite a few hardcore bodybuilding gyms - some of the guys are huge and definately on something.
I managed to catch the AD Police Powerlifting competition last year and standard was ok.
I have good friends living there and I can't recall them mentioning blood tests.
They tend to turn a blind eye to anything so long as it's not being flaunted, you can drink but don't be drunk on the street, it's all a bit hypercritical - they will sniff out drugs in bags and clothes on arrival.
It's a great place, very safe and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I lived there for 7 years. They have a pretty big gym culture there and lifting weights is very popular. There are at least 20 decent gyms in abu dhabi and some of the guys I've seen are massive and not clean. It is also not taboo to use PEDs and I've heard several open gym floor discussions between lifters about where the best place to insert a hypodermic needle would be.
