Gave me time off for all competitions and also let me eat and drink when I want irrespective of the break system they use! And I'm 100% sure they'd force me to take time off if I had a bad injury and was even wanting to come in

Don't you work at a tanning salon?

Some companies are so tightly stretched because they are too tight to hire more staff, that they pretty much always moan no matter when you take your holiday. I worked at one place that was pretty much never satisfied when you took it, they'd box you into a tiny window in the year when they'd strongly prefer you to take it (strongly prefer = take it any other time and you will be the villain) and even then you came back from a week away practically the bad guy! Places like that ran on so few people that it became more like a small family and you were so depended on that when anyone took a holiday that pretty much meant productivity was down without exception, and everyone else got worked into the ground for a week with an illegally short dinner break. Some of the lads that worked there were so heavily pressured year round on being needed that they often simply forgot to book their holidays and didn't take them. The boss would just capitalize off the fact they'd often forget. And then the company wouldn't even pay for what wasn't taken, and you can't carry it over to next year, so the net effect was you got totally played.

I know I make this place sound like something from "Jobs From Hell" but you'd be surprised how many companies like this exist with quite nice and sincere bosses, that dont realise just how t**ttish they are being to their employees simply because they're too tight to hire an extra man.

Sorry to sound a c*nt, but business these days need to be lean due to the economic conditions. Businesses exist to make money, if they don't then they cannot sustain. If this happens less business = less jobs. My girlfriend is a hairdresser and her holidays are a nightmare shes forever moaning, but that's the dangers of working for small businesses its such a fine line between them being under and overstaffed, and any employer with an ounce of business oust will verge on being under and get the most out of employees with incentives.
Classic example is small petrol stations and convenience stores which in my area are mostly run by Asians and 9/10 all the workforce will be family because they can't afford to employ someone who simply go to work for a wage and has no interest; as these people tend to have more time off which cripples them. I'm going off in all directions now, i struggle to sumerise, but i think we will all have different opinions depending on the situation we personally are in. I work for a family run business so i guess im biased to the employer Grin

I deal with people phoning in sick and the problems it causes. I have only one question, "What is your previous sick record like?" If it's very good, I wouldn't give a s**t that it was done lifting, I have more problems with people who take a lot of casual sickness cos they know that if they take less than 7 shifts off per year, nothing is said to them.
