SuperSteel101 said:Just had a scan over your log Tom, great read! Your probably sick of hearing this, but I'll say it anyway ... your deadlift is absolutely superb, awesome work mate!

Sounds like your getting to grips with the bench shirt well, good luck for the British juniors buddy!

cheers mate, believe me I never get tired of hearing that, I just wish my squat and bench were good enough to recieve the same comments, but we'll see in time!

A few highlights from the last couple days

Bench Press

112.5kg x 5
120kg x 4 - probably best that's been since before north wests, been a bit disappointed with raw strength recently, been concentrating on learning the shirt so it's suffered a bit, but this was quite promising

Equipped Bench

135kg x 1 - lowest weight i've touched, pressed nice and easy
150kg x 1 - pb, more to come hopefully

Squat fully equipped

220kg x 3

Deadlift

265kg x 1

I feel like going for 310kg soon, in 2 minds wether or not to attempt it, i'm nearly 5 weeks out from the british juniors so it probably won't harm me

Squat
» Tom's training log... (Go to post)15-01-2010 @ 20:20
Dumbell Bench Press

50lbs x 10
70lbs x 5
80lbs x 5
100lbs x 5

nothin special just gettin back into doing these

2 Board Press

100kg x 5

Shirt on

140kg x 5
160kg x 1

Down to 1 board

150kg x 1 - Misloaded, ment to be 160kg, one side was missing a 10kg plate though, don't trust anyone to load the bar for you!

Surprised I even managed to press this to be honest considering the uneven loading

160kg x 1, a bit rough but it went up

I recon I'm not far off pressing 160 from the chest, would like to be more convincing on the 1 board though

Messed about with some jerks, trying the one that doesnt involve a split stance, think I like it more

60kg x 3
80kg x 3
90kg x 3
100kg x 1 - pressed it out, but im not competing in olympic lifting anyway, I just like putting stuff overhead

Can't rememebr exactly what else I did but it involved some barbell rows, and some dicking about with one of them strongman log things out of curiosity.

Benched often this week, but really low volume, recovering fine and not concerned Happy Squat and deadlift on hold till sunday.

Depends how long you've been doing them. A muscle will only work as it's trained to work. Another 5 years of slow heavy lifts without any athletic training may see a change to your original viewConfused

yes, I should mention that I've always done them alongside sprint training and maintained my bodyweight. just making the point that I'd always been told i was wrong to lift the way I was doing, yet my sprint pb's have always coincided with a deadlift pb Confused

I'm sure you're right, if I did no track work things wouldn't be the same, but there are definitely other options than doing specific plyometric work to get the same training effect. I personally think just being as explosive as you can on all your warmup sets goes a long way

Don't know how you would have thought this though, its not like its written on the packet or anything... Confused

having not read the packet, I have no idea if you're being sarcastic or not, so I'll prepare an answer for each eventuality! it sounds like a good idea on paper but there have been a numerous amount of burnt pan and noodles situations in the martin household, and it turns out neither of us can be trusted to boil anything so close to the wire.

orrr....

if I had the patience to go around reading packaging, I would probably be preparing something a little more worthwhile than super noodles!

favourite flavour? chow mein for me, not that it's anywhere near authentic tasting, but still very good!

would you not just end up with a block of warm compact dry brittle noodles? I thought water was an integral part of their development from coming out of the packet to being ready to eat.

The one time I have eaten Super Noodles in recent memory thats why I did. I dindt allow every last drop of the water to go though, otherwise as you suggest you would be scrapping the pan for ages.

...and how were they?
» Super Noodles (Go to post)13-01-2010 @ 23:50
good answer Wink

i'd like to add a third and untested option.

adding the flavouring to the water/noodles mixture, then allowing the water to boil off? could either be genious, or result in spending the next 20 minutes scraping burnt noodles from the bottom of the pan.
» Super Noodles (Go to post)13-01-2010 @ 23:39
settle an argument between me and the misses...

I think it's best to drain the water off first, then add the flavouring, she likes to drain some water out, add the flavouring, then drain the rest of the water out!?!?!?

Obvious benefits to my way being much more of the flavour is retained, but it has the draw back of being harder to get an even coat over all the noodles, whereas her way is easier to mix, but you end up chucking a lot of the flavour away when you drain the water.

Not that my strict diet would allow me to be up at 20 minutes to midnight eating this s**t.........

never done any plyometrics and recently tested my vertical jump at 1.05m, can do a standing high jump over my own height (1.80m), standing long jump over 3.50m, 40 yard dash 4.28s etc etc... funny how all those big heavy slow power lifts make you slow and muscle bound isn't it. Dunno if plyometrics would help my athletic performance, but I somehow doubt it, I rate heavy deadlifts over anything else for any kind of speed/power development

this sounds farmiliar, and is the reason why i did sldl the day after squatting. you need to increase your training capacity in your hamstrings, they will always feel like that the first time you do sldl, but it gets better quickly the more you do them. that's whyy first week was with 140kg, it was an easy weight that I could recover from twice a week. as you gradually increase the weight, your training capacity increases

started with some overhead pressing, jerk style with some guidance from kev!

60kg x 5
80kg x 3 - were quite nice!
100kg x 1 - really comfortable but technique fell apart a bit, will try more next time

high board press (14cm )

bar x 5
60kg x 5
100kg x 3

shirt on

140kg x 3
160kg x 2
170kg x f - wouldve got it but it wasn't great and my spotter jumped in
170kg x 1 - felt better than 160kg,=pb
180kg x 1 - really nice and even rep, easy 10kg pb
190kg x f - wouldve got 185, lost the groove a bit on the way down

a good days board pressing! managing to hold 190kg over my face and not snap my weedy little arms was a nice surprise, I certainly won't be scared of getting under it again

finished with some gay ab/core work because bicep tendons were too inflamed to do anything else

brynevans said:Really pleased with your bench there today Tom, each rep that you got down with was better than the last. We need to look at your foot placement or footware as the outer is not in contact with the floor and you may pick up red lights, try and work on keeping your feet flat on light day by experimenting with different positions. See you next time.

cheers bryn. I was trying something new with my foot placement and didn't realise they weren't planted properly, let me know next time if I'm still doing it.
