yeah come on Rick, just do your Friday workout on Saturday instead.

You could at least go for a 4 rep max or something?

Cheers Will. I'll have to have a think on this one.

Cheers Brian. I think I'll go with high bar squats for a while and rotate them with front squats. Will just have to save low bar squats for when I'm not training events (which won't be too often hopefully Grin ).

Paul - at the Dungeon

Jeff - Cheers mate. Plenty of fun activities to engage all types of person Grin

It just gets sore from low bar squats and affects pressing, stones and some other things. I'll go with high bar for a while I think. Should be OK on the elbows.

Yeah here it is (tried emailing it but it was too large)

Joni - you are right it was a very good session. I can't help being pissed off at failing the axle though. I will be sore too, so don't worry - you won't be on your own!

Rob - The reason I started back squats again was because:

  • My knees were getting very sore from fronties
My back needed some extra strengthening that I thought low bar squats would provide

So now I can either go back to front squats and hope my knees hold up OK, or go to high bar squats like you say and give them a whirl. Thanks for the input, I'll probably go with high bar and see how I get on.

Good work today the bull! Yes Bri vid will be here soon. 400kg for 10m and 360kg for 20 for next year would be nice!

Thanks boar and thing!

Saturday strongman!

Pete and Joni along for the ride, another great session after a false start.

Axle press
75kg x 2, 90kg x 1, 100kg x x,x on the clean, 100kg x x on the press. Elbow giving me grief from squats. They'll have to go again!Unhappy No go on these today. Will hopefully make up for it with Monday's pressing.

Yoke
As mentioned in Joni's log (and yes Will you did tell us so!) my yoke is actually 75 and not 50 so everything in the past needs 25kg adding to it! So in fact my yoke pb's are 325kg x 10, 297kg x 16m and a pick up and 20 sec hold with 375kg. Anyway - todays's yoke:

80kg x 10m, 160kg x 10m, 240kg x 10m, 320kg x 10m (no drops), 350kg x 5.5m with a couple of drops. Nice to get this weight on my back. Some lofty yoke goals for next year are already being pondered! Vid of the 320:

Farmers holds
70kg, 110kg pick ups for warm up.
150kg x fail pick up! (high pick up tooConfused )
150kg x 30 seconds, 30 seconds

Stones to 51 inches
105kg x 1, 130kg x 1, 140kg x 3, 150kg x 1 no misses.

I don't miss the milk that much to be honest, sometimes drinking it was a bit of a chore. I do miss the Triple Whoppers, Fish & Chips, Pizza Hut, Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Slow-Baked Butter Cookies and the reduced range of motion on bench Unhappy

See you next Saturday anyway dude, looking forward to it!

Hmm sounds a bit like my diet. Had a chinese for tea last night, then fish chips and gravy for supper and just had a fry up for breakfast. Will nail a protein shake now just before Joni comes. 16 and a half stone for next summer, no excuses!

Next sat should be good, looking forward to it.

Don't you miss the milk?

I thought that platform was 64"? Either way it was your first session with the stones, so you'll soon get used to it.

See you on Sat!
» Platform Height (stones) (Go to post)04-10-2007 @ 21:31
Joni and I have been training to 54 inches which is pretty high. We've gone up to 63" in the past which is bordering on ridiculous. I wouldn't ever go below 48 inches except for absurdly heavy stones. I think it's best to mix it up.

When I pull my finger out and get my adjustable, multiple stone lading platform (pallets) it will be easy to train to various heights in the same session. I also need to get a tyre sorted ASAP.

You coming on Saturday then Pete?

Right I'll give it a whirl.

Split jerks where you throw your feet out to the side, or split jerks like an oly lifter? Well, no to both, may try next time but TBH I've been quite happy with the progress on these.

You may be right about the squats. Only my third squat workout in months and I've thrown the weight straight on really. I will try to go a bit deeper with a 'dig' next time. Cheers
