Did a max today.

SQUAT
1 quite slow rep with 150kg.

DUMBELL BENCHPRESS (new exercise for me)
1 set of 15 reps with 30kg dumbells
1 set of 11 reps with 30kg dumbells
1 set of 10 reps with 30kg dumbells

DIVERGING LAT PULLDOWN
1 set of 15 reps with 59kg
1 set of 10 reps with 59kg
1 set of 10 reps with 59kg (cheated the last 3 reps)

I worked hard as s**t.
In fact for like 12 weeks I worked hard as s**t. Squatting till the blood vessels popped, until my vision went. Squatting till I needed to sleep over 12 hours a day for a couple of days afterwards. Squatting till I swore I was getting arthritis in my hips, knees and lower back. Squatting so hard my core muscles ached 3 days later. Guzzling supplements a couple of times a day.

What did I get for those 12 weeks of hell?

I got 5kg on my max.

That's what I got. 5kg on my max.

Now that the 12 weeks is over and I've finished feeling like I was going to fail my reps week after week....

It's time to do it all over again. Maybe in another 12 weeks I might add another 5kg on my max and squat 155....

An unusual but fun day today, I just did a large number of bent over rows with sixty kilos as the place was full of weightlifters warming up for the annual Christmas competition.

These competitions take on various forms, this year it was rather bizarre. It comprised two lifts - the power clean and the bench press. Each entrant had to predict what they would do in each lift and then see what they could actually do. If you did more than predicted you won points, and if you did less you lost them. Now obviously the trick would be to tell everyone you would bench twenty kilos and then bench one hundred and therefore win many points, but this would not do as no-one would believe a one hundred kilo bencher was only going to do twenty kilos so such a prediction would not have been allowed.

You could have predicted a two hundred kilo bench and then lifted only one hundred. That would have been allowed but would have been a very foolish thing as you would have lost a shedload of points.

The object then would be to predict a lift that was high enough to be believed as a potential maximum, but low enough for you to beat by some way and therefore garner enough points to win.

In my eyes this then is actually a competition to find the best liar and most devious lifter. Anywho it was great fun and was won by Mack.

Was getting quite tired so took Monday and Wednesday off. It actually paid off!

FRONT SQUAT FRIDAY
4 set of 8 reps with 75kg (2 reps up)
1 set of 5 reps with 95kg (2 reps up)

Genuinely thought I was going to be s**t as my sleep and diet hasn't been the best but the full 7 days between last week and this week came with a pleasant result of 2 reps up on every set!

Very pleased.
