» Gyms in Cumbernauld (Go to post)12-06-2014 @ 13:37
Good afternoon all,

It has been a very long time since I've posted anything here so to those I have spoken to or met in the past, I hope that you're well.

Does anyone know of any decent gyms in or around the Cumbernauld area of Glasgow?

i like them too along with jumps/bounds, ladder drills and other sprinting drills like change of direction etc

Ah-ha. I knew I was missing something. It has been a long time since I have done them.

With my conditioning working I mentioned I also did jumps and bounds with some medicine ball work and lunge jumps.

The change of direction etc I do at rugby. Only so much a body like mine can take at this size and this unfit.

I have been doing kettlebell complexes and when I feel really up to it I mix in Concept2 rowing intervals.

An example of what I have done during 2012 is:

20 Double Hand Swings
20 Clean and Press (10 each hand)
20 Snatches (10 each hand)
20 One Hand Swings (10 each hand)
20 Squats

Six 30 second intervals on the Concept2 with 30 seconds rest.

This is hard.

Also tried sprints for the first time a fortnight ago and I'm surprised how much I really enjoyed them.

If you find a good one it's actually quite tasty, although like yourself, I find my stomach does tend to feel a bit unsettled after it - probably the grease.
Also be aware that Asian owned franchises are Halal and taste very different as they can't use anything containing Animal Fat in the preparation and cooking.

Asian?!

Are these Chinese people you talk of or Koreans or Sikhs and Hindus from India or Japanese folk? I didn't think any of them, in their two or three billion combined, ate halal food. What would I know?

Best thing at McDonalds after the McFlurries, Sundaes and fries.

Virgin Gym in Finnieston is a good gym but the patrons put you right off.

Are you allowed to train at Scotstoun Stadium?! I know City of Glasgow Barbell Club train there three days a week at specific times; unfortunately those times (4pm to 6pm) don't fit in with work.

Anytime Fitness. Never knew this place existed. Was better that way.

My first post after a very, very long time.

This is a long shot but does anyone know of any gyms in or around the West End of Glasgow, which are decent for both strength and conditioning and taking your Mrs along?

There are plenty of gyms in the South, East and just outside Glasgow but currently time does not permit travelling too far.

It is said overweight Asians with a positive family history have a 100% risk near enough of developing diabetes!

So am I! My family is rife with diabetes. I'm overweight and Panjabi. Heart disease and diabetes are so waiting to jump out.

I don't enjoy the pain. I just don't think the foam roller hits me right being 115-118kg and fat! Hmmmmm....
