I've decided to make a record of my deadlifting journey on a new blog. Here's the link - http://groundzerodeadlifting.blogspot.com/ .

You never know, we may make a powerlifter out of you yet!

Thanks for the advice, Matt. But I think you go too far!!! Yes, leg press is probably doable. I've been doing bits of "assistance" for deads - shrugs, lats and the like already. I think GMs and SLDs would be worse for my back at this stage, so I think I'll deadlift twice a week lightish and very sensibly for a few weeks and then revert to once plus assistance when/if the back gets stronger. Or this whole venture could be abandoned by this time next week!

Being bald has saved me a fortune at the barbers shop over the years.

And using clippers on myself has achieved similar savings.

I remember it being longer than this (where have I heard that before?) but enjoy!

I hope to get 210 before Marion Jones comes out.

Is she a Dyke?

I reckon she will be very soon! Incidentally, the thing that make me laugh harder and longer than anything else, ever, was Jim Davidson and Jethro on that out takes show trying to talk about a Norfolk Dyke Dibbler.

Stevie, I think you're too strong for me, mate, but who knows?

Thanks Rob. That's what I was thinking, especially when the enthusiasm is still there. Wednesdays and Sundays it is, then! Stones? I think not! Logs? Piece of piss. Anyone can do them! In time. If light enough... Dark ones are hard though.Grin

Right. The back is aok this morning and I've just been doing some browsing. The BDFPA M3 qualifying standard for unequipped deadlift is 185, and THERE IS NO BRITISH RECORD in my category. So, with the proviso that my back may let me down and I'll have to be sensible and stop, guess what my target is?

Without sounding too heroic or any of that s**t, if I could hit the deadlift qualifying standard with a gammy leg that would surpass anything I've ever done or ever will do on the bench. Maybe this May will be too soon, but there's always 2009! Deads every Sunday it is, then!

Quick question - would I get away with doing them twice a week for a few weeks to tone/develop/stimulate the deadlifting muscles and then back off to once a week when I start to plateau? Or should I stick to once a week full stop? I believe the lower back muscles need 6 days to fully recover?

Well, an anagram would be Todger Squad, but I'm sure they wouldn't do that to you, Tom.Grin Grin Grin

Thanks for the comments, guys. I promise to be careful! Leg felt fine, back a bit dodgy - but then it's dodgy picking up a 5 kilo dumbell off the floor. That's why I felt I should try to do something. Boar, I'll post my first 200 deadlift, and I'll wear white just for you.Happy 100 doesn't merit space on You Tube.

Right guys. Are you sitting comfortably? Today's session was done at home, and I've got a 7 kilo bar and 20, 10, 7.5, 5 and 2 kilos plates, just to explain the strange numbers.

Deadlifts!!!

47 for 5 reps x 3 sets
67 for 3 reps x 3 sets
77 for 2 reps x 2 sets
82 for 1
92 for 1 (200 pounds+ - woo hoo)
100 for 1 (woo hoo times 100)
47 for 10

Barbell Curls - 27 for 10, 31 for 10, 37 for 8. Stopped there because the angle was hurting my wrists. Will use ez bar next time.

Dumbell Curls, 10 kilos dumbells - 2 sets of 15 and 3 sets of 20 (15s felt too easy)

I thought I would try deadlifts, if only to be able to empathise with you lot. Remember I'm an old man with a bad leg and a bad back! Neither leg nor back can really get much worse, and might get a bit better if I mollycoddle them a bit less. That was the theory. I was really chuffed to get 100 at my first attempt. Probably sounds silly to you guys, but it was a lot more than I expected. I had no problem getting it moving, but really felt my back on the second half of the lift. If my back doesn't seize up overnight, I'm going to try and do them every Sunday and see what happens.

If I was the junior cat, I'd be legging it up a tree about now.

I think he was an Australian lifter who won the Olympic SH title in the eighties. Also seem to remember that he was a millionnaire who owned a big boat. Maybe where the boat boy was pictured, which is why Little_a knows about him? Or I could be totally wrong!
