Yeah, I'm planning on doing that, even though I'll be unequipped.

From Sc**thorpe, so its kind of close, handy!

I guess you're doing it yeah?

I didn't manage to get to sleep last night until about 2 in the morning so it was a real struggle to pull myself out of bed and get to the gym this morning. Being really tired did seem to have a bit of an affect on my session as I found everything quite a bit tougher than I was expecting, but I still managed to get everything done.

Squat:
Bar x 15
40kg x 10
60kg x 8
80kg x 3 x 5

Bench press:
Bar x 20
40kg x 10
52.5kg x 3 x 5

I think I've finally got used to properly arching my back whilst benching. After a few weeks of it seeming weird and uncomfortable it seemed to go quite well this morning!

Deadlift:
40kg x 10
80kg x 8
120kg x 5

Maybe should have done one more warm up set after the 8 reps with 80kg, but decided to dive straight in. Was a bit of a struggle so I'll be adding in an extra warm up set next week!

I finally got back on my bike this morning and cycled to the gym to end my spell of being lazy!

Cycled there quite quickly so I was feeling nice and warm by the time I got there. I really noticed myself feeling looser and more comfortable during my warm up sets than when I don't bike to the gym. Cycling is king!

Squat:
Bar x 15
40kg x 10
60kg x 8
80kg x 3 x 5

80kg was the weight I opened my squat with when I competed on the 12th of July. I was rather pleased with myself for fairly comfortably doing it for three sets of five today. I think it shows I'm progressing, or I just underestimated myself when I competed last month! Happy

Press:
Bar x 10
30kg x 3 x 5

Chin ups:
BW x 9
BW x 7
BW x 5

Not entirely happy with chin ups, five on my final set is a bit pathetic, but nevermind, at least I'm still managing to do more overall than I was a few weeks back.

What's the interview for Luke?

The interview was for a job at a nightclub in Lincoln, went really well.
Even managed to mention my lifting;

"Describe a situation recently where you've felt under pressure and tell me how you dealt with it."

"Last month I competed in a powerlifting competition for the first time, I found it quite nerve racking being on the platform for the first time with everyone watching, but managed to focus and do quite well considering it was my first ever competition."

"A very good example of handling pressure well, thank you."

I was well proud of myself for getting that in haha.

Wouldn't eating like this just make you fat and not really help with anything?

Another early morning session because of work and an interview later today!

Started off with bench press for a change and it all went rather sweetly.

Bench press:
Bar x 20
30kg x 10
50kg x 3 x 5

Realised after I'd done two sets of five that this week I was supposed to be doing 47.5kg, not 50kg. It was easy as anything though so I think I'll carry on the progression from 50kg next week.

Squat:
Bar x 15
40kg x 10
55kg x 8
75kg x 3 x 5

After messing about a bit with my squats on Wednesday these felt really good today, 80kg next week should be fun!

Pull ups:
BW x 7
BW x 5
BW x 7

I think this morning went really well, especially as I hadn't had anything to eat or drink before going to the gym today.

I was back in the gym this morning after missing my last two sessions whilst I was away camping. It was absolutely lobbing it down, so I decided against cycling and jumped in the car. I think I'm getting a bit lazy when it comes to cycling these days!

Couple of guys were using the area right next to the rack while they were doing deadlifts so I couldn't do squats first as I normally do. I had to start with the press instead.

Press:
Bar x 10
27.5kg x 3 x 5

The couple of guys who were doing deadlifts had now moved on to doing some squats, so I still couldn't use the rack. This annoyed me a little bit, as I selfishly thought I could have made better use of the rack than two guys doing very high squats with knee wraps around trackies!

Deadlift:
40kg x 10
60kg x 8
90kg x 6
115kg x 5

Finally got to use the rack as the other people had moved on to using the leg press. I was feeling pretty worn out by this point, not quite sure why as I hadn't done an awful lot, but I just wasn't feeling that great.

Squat:
Bar x 15
40kg x 10
50kg x 8
75kg x 3 x 5

The second set of five felt a bit harder than I was expecting towards the end, but after sitting down for a bit and telling myself to stop fannying around thinking that 75kg was going to difficult for a third set I cracked on with it. The third set felt really easy, so I reckon it was just me being negative and talking myself into thinking the second set was more difficult than it was!

Despite the minor negative aspects of today's session it felt good being back in the gym after my little lay off and I can't wait to try keep this linear progression thing going! Happy

I noticed you've mentioned gammy hamstrings a few times recently... what's actually up with them?

Final session before going camping for a few days so I was hoping it would be good and I wasn't disappointed!

Started off with squats as always:
Bar x 15
40kg x 10
50kg x 6
70kg x 3 x 5

Bench press:
Bar x 20
30kg x 10
45kg x 3 x 5

Deadlift:
40kg x 10
60kg x 8
90kg x 6
110kg x 5

The last couple of reps for the deadlift were terrible, I think as I was tiring my form went completely out of the window. Rounding shoulders aren't pretty!

Won't be back in the gym now until Monday night at the earliest, if I don't make it then it'll be a week today when I'm back at it. I'm going to miss the gym!

I'm still a bit ill, with the cold and things I moaned about in my last journal entry, so I drove to the gym again. I'll be back to cycling on Wednesday, mainly to prove to myself I haven't got lazy!

A new week again meant a 5kg increase to squats and a 2.5kg increase to the press.

Squat:
Bar x 15
40kg x 10
50kg x 6
70kg x 3 x 5

Press:
Bar x 8
25kg x 3 x 5

Chin ups:
BW x 8
BW x 4
BW x 6

Now got only one more session left before I go away on a little camping trip and have to miss two sessions. Hopefully it'll be another good one on Wednesday!

At the minute I'm not playing any hockey, the team I used to play for at home train on a Sunday, when I'm always working.

But, when I'm at uni the team trains between once and three times a week, depending on when we have games.

So, I can seriously see my lifting suffering if I'm training for hockey all the time as well. But as you said I'll have to see how it goes when I'm training and playing regularly again.

Fair enough on the sprints front, I'll give them a miss until I'm back at uni playing hockey then.

The losing chub thing is hockey based aswell, I've not really got alot of flab, but the more fat I can lose and replace with decent strength will benefit my hockey more.

Its going to be a bit difficult balancing lifting and hockey in that sense, might come a point where I have to choose between the two!
