Great PB.
When was the last time you tested?
Can you put the massive gain down to this program?

You've just made a huge stride towards your 370kg goal-
has it been revised upwards yet?
Anyway, well done.

The last time I tested was at the North Midlands Open on the 12th of July, where I got 102.5kg. I'd definitely say its from doing this program, my training had no real structure before it, so its definitely helped!

Haven't changed my goal, the aim is still to qualify for the British Juniors at 67.5kg. The new squat PR will help, but I need to reproduce it in a comp before I'll be completely satisfied!

As I said at the end of my last journal entry, I'm giving normal training a miss this weak and instead using this week to test my max for each of the three competition lifts.

I'm going to test them in competition order, so today I was seeing what I'm now capable of squatting.

Bar x 15
40kg x 10
60kg x 3
80kg x 2
Singles from now on.
90kg- This was my second lift when I competed in July so I was pleased when this felt really easy.
100kg
105kg- This beat my previous PR by 2.5kg, but felt really comfortable so I carried on adding 5kg each time.
110kg
115kg
120kg
125kg
130kgPR This was a real grind to get up so I stopped after this one.

I then did a couple of singles at 100kg just to try out Dan's lifting shoes, I'm considering buying some myself so gave them a go!

A few weeks back I videoed my squat and noticed that my hips come up alot quicker than my shoulders so I end doing a sort of Good Morning movement to finish off my squat. Dan videoed my squats at 100kg and as you can see I still raise my hips a little fast, but its nowhere near as bad as it was. The one in the video is possibly a little high too. Any other comments are welcome please!

So in the end I beat my previous best by 27.5kg, to say I'm pleased is a bit of an understatement.

Unfortunately I forgot about my camera until after I'd finished trying to beat my max, so apologies for no video of it! Dan can confirm that I did it though and that I'm not lying haha!

Noticed a few of the pins on the rack are already bent, maybe this guy throws loaded bars at the rack on a regular basis haha.

Still bloody strong though!

I'm going to have a moan before writing up my training for this morning;

If I ever somehow accumulate enough money I am going to open my own gym. This gym will have a very strict membership policy that would prevent people like those that have recently started using the gym I go to from entering. Anyone who considers putting on a designer t-shirt and putting loads of hair gel on before a session in the gym at half nine on Saturday morning necessary would instantly be refused membership. Also, people that make lots of unnecessary noise shouting about their 'f**king mental night' wouldn't be allowed in, neither would those that consider three different types of bicep curl and then some tricep press downs to be a workout.

I'm sure I annoy some people in the gym with the involuntary grunt I've developed whilst deadlifting, but at least it isn't quite as annoying as the things I've just moaned about!

Anyway, now I've finished behaving like a grumpy old man I shall do what was intended and write up today's session!

Squat:
Bar x 15
40kg x 10
60kg x 6
80kg x 2
85kg x 3 x 5

Bench press:
Bar x 20
40kg x 10
50kg x 2
55kg x 3 x 5

Pull ups:
BW x 8
BW x 7
BW x 5

Poor performance with pull ups, but I was pleased with how comfortable the squats and bench press felt.

I'll be having a break from the linear progression next week to have a little go at beating my PRs for all three competition lifts. If it goes well I'll write it up, if I fail to beat any of my current bests I'll be keeping very quiet about the whole thing!

Grunt away mate if it helps, wait until your doing involuntary screaming!

I find that doing a fairly heavy triple before going for a 1RM helps me, similar to you.

I'm testing out my 1RM for the three competition lifts next week, I'm sure some involuntary screaming will be done then!

Spot on lads what the best things to wear for deadlift like what kind shorts

What competition are you planning on wearing shorts in?

I might be wrong, but I thought all federations specified that you have to wear a lifting suit, wrestling singlet, lifting leotard, that kind of thing. Meaning shorts of any kind aren't allowed other than for warming up in.

Wouldn't it be better to just wear the old one for your comp instead of using a new belt that will be fairly uncomfortable if its still solid?

Monday 17th August 2009

Had to drive to the gym on Monday morning because whilst I was working on Sunday night some absolute to**er decided to relieve me of my bike, meaning I had to walk home! To say I was angry is a bit of an understatement.

Anyway, onto talking about training;

Squat:
Bar x 15
40kg x 10
60kg x 6
80kg x 2
85kg x 3 x 5

Bench press:
Bar x 20
40kg x 10
50kg x 2
55kg x 3 x 5

I found that adding in the double at quite close to the weight I was going to be using for my work sets really helped set me up for the work sets. I'll definitely be sticking them in every session from now on!

Chin ups:
BW x 9
BW x 7
BW x 6

Today- 20th August 2009

For some reason, possibly not sleeping all that much in the past fews, I wasn't feeling too clever on the way to the gym today. I think this had an effect on how difficult I found everything, I managed to do everything I had planned, but was dripping sweat, panting like a dog on a hot day and feeling really sick by the time I'd finished! The hardwork will pay off one day though!

Squat:
Bar x 15
40kg x 10
60kg x 6
80kg x 2
85kg x 3 x 5

Press:
Bar x 10
32.5kg x 3 x 5

Deadlift:
40kg x 10
80kg x 8
110kg x 2
125kg x 5

As with the squats and bench press on Monday, I felt that the double with only 15kg less than my work set really helped.

As I came to the last few reps with my deadlift I developed an involuntary grunt. I'm hoping this is only a temporary thing and it doesn't happen again next week, I found it a bit embarrassing haha!

I'm sure I read an interview with Tyson Gay claiming that he was going to beat Bolt and claim a new world record in the process, silly man.

I got a good early night last night so I was feeling nice and fresh when I got up for the gym this morning, which made a nice change after feeling absolutely knackered the past few times I've been in the gym!

Squat:
Bar x 15
40kg x 10
60kg x 6
80kg x 3 x 5

All three work sets felt quite easy, 85kg next week should go well, hopefully anyway!

Press:
Bar x 10
30kg x 3 x 5

Pull ups:
BW x 9
BW x 7
BW x 6

Quite happy with the pull ups I ended with. I seem to be improving quite a bit when it comes to body weight related things like chins and pull ups! Happy
