» English Qualifier for the Giants Live british Championships (Go to post)10-01-2013 @ 13:02
This is one of the things that is a problem and one of the things that makes strongman so amazing. You've got Wayne smith who won empm but then if you start talking about who beat him, I beat him that year at England's qualifier, I beat bish at st Ives, I beat hixxy at bodypower but had shoulder injuries, biceps come off all things that change the game. Previous sentence isn't me saying I should get an invite, it's me trying to prove a point that anybody can win on any given day down to lots and lots of variables - who was in competing on the day, events etc. which is why, bar the usual suspects, everybody should have to qualify through specific comps. Look at Darren Sadler, WSM qualifier. He shouldn't have been there. No of fence to Darren I really like him and he's one of my all time favourite strongmen, but his place should have gone up someone else. It should not go on past performances, bar the top lads in the country, and I'm only talking top 5 really. The rest should have to scrap it out.
This would do two things:
1 stop all the complaining because if you qualified you deserve your place.
2. Create a better athelete. Your going to train harder and more intensive and fight if you've got to earn your place. If your just going to get given it you can relax a little.
And do not take this post as me trying to say I'm better than anybody on the list or anybody I've mentioned because I'm not. If I beat them that day I was, but skip to another comp and they could beat me- that's strongman.

Strict Log looks good mate.

I am having exactly the same trouble with my forearm at the moment, it's down to the bi-cep not firing properly so the brachiallis is taking up the strain. Heat and ice it mate 4 minutes of each for 4 sets, always end on cold though. It will just help blood flush through it. I don't know whether there is anything that can be done about it or it's just a case of waiting for the bicep to catch up again.
Deep tissue massgae will help too. A 100kg stone triggered mine of this weekend. Even when I do curls my left bicep pumps but right doesn't even bat an eyelid, forearm different story

7th January 2013

Treadmill:
3 min warm up
4 sets of 30 secs @ 7.5kmh/1 min @ 5.5kmh
Had to stop at 4 sets as I had the most horrendous shin splints

SLDL:
1 x 10 @ 60kg
1 x 10 @ 80kg
1 x 10 @ 100kg

Log (1 Clean)
1 x 5 @ 85kg - Strict Press
1 x 2 @ 105kg - Strict Press
1 x 2 @ 125kg - Strict Press
1 x 2 @ 135kg - Strict Press
1 x 2 @ 140kg - Strict Press
1 x 2 @ 145kg - Strict Press

Reckon I had 150 in there for 2 on the strict but my brachiallis is flaring up really bad at the moment. My bicep does not seem to be firing and the brach is taking all the slack.

Seated DB Press:
1 x 15 @ 35kg
1 x 15 @ 40kg
1 x 15 @ 42.5kg

C/G Bench:- (Feet Up)
1 x 5 @ 60kg
1 x 5 @ 90kg
1 x 3 ' 110kg
1 x 3 @ 130kg
1 x 5 @ 140kg
1 x 5 @ 150kg (5 second pause on last 2 reps)

Pushdowns:
3 x 20 @ 1 off full stack

Front Raises:
1 x 10 @ 20kg
1 x 10 @ 22.5kg
1 x 10 @ 25kg

Side Raises:
1 x 10 @ 25kg
1 x 10 @ 27.5kg
1 x 10 @ 30kg

Hamstring feeling ok, but now my forearm wants to be a b**ch. Well get it all out the way now and have an injury free season.

Can you tell me what you class a beginner as. A lad I train has done 1 competition, and been training for about 6/ months for strongman. Would he be eligible ?

some bloody volume there with the squats and sldls!
what do you class as high fish oil dosage 10,000mg?
cheers

It depends on BW really.
For fat loss the rule of thumb is 1g per % of BF.
For other health benefits I would say, just going off what I take, about 5% of total BW. I'm 114kg and take about 5g to 10g a day. There is no scientific basis for that figure, it is just one I use on myself and clients.

Arnolds is very static strong, think Ed would do well like he does at UKs, hixxy also. No disrespect to the others, they are all alot stronger than me but based on their performances at WSM I would say no.

However, it is all event dependent.
» best tricep exercises for strength (Go to post)03-01-2013 @ 23:09
I said:
That is not going to get you strong, it will pump you up and build your lactic level tolerance but will not make you strong. All those exercises are doing is isolating different heads of the tricep and creating sarcoplasmic hypertrophy, perhaps a little protein filament breakdown but not much.
Heavy compound movements for strength, regardless of muscle. Would you recommeend leg curls and leg extensions to build leg strength, no. You would use them in a strength routine but not for strength.
Best strength exercises for triceps - C/G Bench; Weighted Dips and standing French Press.

And no I will not be providing a scientific study to prove this Grin
