» An old, fat fool starts a log. Hope no-one minds (Go to post)22-11-2010 @ 20:12
Monday, 22nd November, start 17:05

I've been a little nervous today, it was 280 two weeks ago, 270 ish last week so it's 290 today, normally that would be no great trouble, but one, it's been a while and two, the glute played up friday, was fine saturday, and played up again yesterday, all this toing and froing is not good.

Squat, new suit, straps up, naked knees, all weights in kilos

60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
100 x 5
140 x 5
180 x 3
wraps on
220 x 1
250 x 1
270 x 1
290 x 1

Young Aaron and Handsome Jeff watched depth and both narrowly failed it. It was not quite deep enough and therefore it was harder than it ought to have been getting up with it (when will I ever learn) but everything else was fine about it. Despite the above it wasn't overly heavy, as the old saying goes, it you can do it this wrong, you can sure as hell do it right. Confidence has increased as a result of this tonight, next time it will be easier. Another plus is that the manky hand is only half the size it was (the manky bit, not the hand) and it looks much cleaner and, well, less manky. Surgery is more or less ruled out now. Initially this looked to be quite a poor showm but closer inspection revealed that it really wasn't that bad at all. End 18:15

Off to the White Bear for some scampi and some parsiflage with Joe the Terrible as always. There are two benches at Adders, the foot of one being at the head of the other, so in order to sit up I hook my feet under the bench in front and use that as leverage, that has done the glute no good whatsoever, I am now limpimg, only slightly, but I am. Plus my neck aches. I am well fed up with this now, if I am to fall apart, I wish I could get it over and done with. On the plus side I did attend to my hand immediately after training

Just popped to the local supermarket for some antiseptic lotions and portions for the hand. Although not sore, it looking manky and fungaly and altogether not good. So some excessive care and cleanliness is on the cards, if no improvement in a week or so then it may be off to seek professional advice. The trouble about this things is that they sneak up on you and you don't notice how bad it is (I tend to judge everything by how much it hurts), But I was out and about with some chaps from the club last night and they spotted it from across the room, they examined it and bollocled me within an inch of my life. Hence the fat fool has been stirred into some kind of action. My heartfelt thanks to the gentlemen concerned for the advice and the fillip needed.
As I queued at the checkout, I was behind a man who had bought half the store, it would barely fitted on the conveyor belt, as he loaded the last few items he smiled and asked "would you like to pop in front of me as you only have a few items" I didn't need asking twice, what a nice chap.

At the end of last week's session we tried a slightly narrower grip, we will continue with it. The outer edges of each hand are on the rings, so essentailly it's the same width as a max legal bench, which is narrow for a deadlift, the feet are moved in a tad to accomodate this.

Deadlift, raw, all weights in kilos

60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
100 x 5
140 x 5
180 x 3
200 x 3
220 x 3
230 x 3
220 x 3

T bar row, very strict

40 x 10
50 x 10
60 x 10
70 x 10
60 x 10

This wasn't a great deal of fun tonight, I believe the narrower grip has some mileage in it, but right now it is causing my left buttock (which was fine last week, absolutely fine during Monday's squats and fine each day since) to play up considerably. It can't be much as after the first rep it improves dramatically for the next two, the narrower stance is worrying me tonight though, I'm not going higher than 230 in this mood. I dropped it to 220 and resorted to normal grip for the last, it was better, but the damage was already done. I am much annoyed by this, as it was quite unexpected. To compound matters another piece fell off the seg, so that's giving me grief again. The icing on the cake was there was a crash on the M61 and it and surrounding roads were chokka, I went home by an old Indian route that involved cattle grids of all things. Home late, sore hand, dodgy arse, and a general grumpyness that I seem to be getting used to. Bah !

Wednesday 17th November, start 1700

Bench, raw at frist, all weights in kilos

20 x 20
20 x 20
20 x 20
70 x 5
70 x 5
70 x 5
110 x 3
120 x 2
130 x 1

DrRick dons the murderer's gloved and has the big shirt on in no time, all paused now

150 x 2 one to three blocks and one to two
160 x 1 to one block
170 x 1 to chest
175 x 1 to chest also

All nice and smooth and sweet, but one thing shines out like a lighthouse on a dark and fogggy night, I need a tighter shirt, bit close to the comp for this one, but for the British, most definitely. A sandwich and a protein drink then off to the home of the tubular bandage to hurl a handsome and rather slutty women against quite a number of walls quite a few times each. I do enjoy wednesdays, especially when my neck isn't sore.

You seem to be on your own there JC, maybe you just caught a glimpse of Sugden's future. Personally I find it difficult to believe that no-one has told him to take more drugs.

There is far more fun to be had with ladies of the night than killing them Jon. You must know that the natural enemy of the strumpet is the van driver. Two and two making four yet ?

Morning Mish !

Hope you are keeping well.

Slight detour as the blackrod bypass is closed in the direction I want to go so I have to snake my way through the village.

Squat, new suit, straps up, naked knees, all weights in kilos

"down a bit this week" says the boss

60 x 5
60 x 6
60 x 6
100 x 5
100 x 5
140 x 5
180 x 3
wraps on
220 x 1
240 x 1
260 x 1
272 x 1
260 x 1

All really rather nice, but the 272 wasn't quite as nice as the others so I had to do 260 again. That'll each me, all in all a good and enjoyable night. I drive out behind handsome Jeff, who thought he spotted a fault with my lights and kindly stopped to tell me. I explained that they were fine and dandy an that is what should have happened. I thanked him and off he went. I pulled up at the junction and there was Aaron heading back to the club as his train had been cancelled. A cold and dark club is no place for the lad so i offered him a lift home. A longer detour than the way in, but he could have been there all night if I hadn't. I couldn't do that to him. he was lucky though, if Jeff hadn't stopped me he would have missed us both by thirty seconds or so. That delay was just what he needed to snaffle a lift if a car with fully-functioning lights. I reckon he should buy Jeff a drink, personally I reckon a light stabbing is in order.

20 x 20
20 x 20
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5

120 x 1
130 x 1
140 x 1
140 x 1
140 x 1
140 x 1
140 x 1
140 x 1
140 x 1
140 x 1
140 x 1
140 x 2
and to chest now
130 x 1

Fin. Sloped off to the White Bear for the now traditional steak and kidney pie and diet coke and to shoot the breeze with Joe the terrible. Then home to watch the racing from Cheltenham, where today, I did find a beast that could run and jump and managed to do so, I got my money back on the day and a little more besides, it won't get me a trip to Oldham but it will cover a tandoori chicken from a rather splendid takeaway just up the road.

Friday, 12th November, start 15:55

Deadlift, raw, all weights in kilos

60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
100 x 5
140 x 3
180 x 3
220 x 3
230 x 3
240 x 3
250 x 1
250 x 1
250 x 1
220 x 3
220 x 1*

All really rather good though I say so myself, the back/glute gave almost no trouble, just a slight nudge of the singles, but nothing to worry about, and the seg which did ache on all up to the first 220 and then suddenly stopped and behaved itself rigt up until I have finished whereby it started to ache slightly, but nothing more. The last single was an experiment in a slight change in hand spacing. I moved both hands in one inch or so, The inner part of both hands is now only just on the knurl. it felt no different but Alan saw something he evidently liked so we might try the whole session with this grip next week.

Bench, raw, still kilos

50 x 5
80 x 5
110 x 3
130 x 3
140 x 3
130 x 3

These were beacuse, in Alan's words "I did none on Wednesday". "Bit I did" I protested. "No you didn't" said he "now get on with it" So I did. And that was that. I have more physio booked for tomorrow which can only be a good thing, I was mugged for a fiver for a prostate cancer charity by a man with a moustache, I spotted for some fine squatting, and DRRick arrived very late with tales of ford focus' and buses fighting in the road and of the traffic chaos they caused. They caused it for me too, I missed eggheads - boo, but I made it before the chippy closed - hooray. Cheltenham is on channel four tomorrow and on Sunday, so that's me sorted. This weekend, if all goes to plan, I shall be taking it easy, very easy
