» An old, fat fool starts a log. Hope no-one minds (Go to post)17-12-2010 @ 16:58
Friday, 17th December, start 14:00

Holiday today hence the early start, just me and Alan at first.

Cold, thermometer says +1

Deadlift, raw. all in kilos.

60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5

"staright to the other bar and five sets of three ending at 500 lbs" says the boss

140 x 3
170 x 3
190 x 3
210 x 3
230 x 3

Now we put the bar on blocks so the start point is higher, still below the knees, but higher*

210 x 3
210 x 3
230 x 3
230 x 3

Now we add a flat board to stand on about two inches think, bar still on block, so lower than previous but higher than normal

180 x 3
180 x 3
180 x 3

Tbar row, very strict, still kilos

40 x 10
50 x 10
60 x 10
70 x 10
80 x 10
60 x 10

*I always used to find these awkward and still do, just the initial start to the pull is always the stumbling block, once it's mover half an inch it fairly flirts up, just that first bit.

Enjoyed his tonight, quite warm by the finish, feet were cold though, deadlift slippers xcan#t cope with Adlington temperatures, A few more in by now, Taxi Mark, Aaron and Handsome Fred. I exit 1600 and homeski

How this was going on without me knowing is a mystery. But I know now.

I am a great believer in buying suits etc that are the correct size, rather than resorting to dangling, shoehorns and lubricant. They shouldn't go on too easy but you shouldn't have a fight on your hands either.

The very best of luck with it, and if I can help in any way, you know where I am

We have an Eleiko power bar and it is brilliant, can't praise it highly enough.

Do not confuse them with Eleiko weightlifting bars, both are excellent but very different. Horses for courses and all that

Yep, it's a katana, not the super katana, just the standard one, straight sleeved. The same as the other but one size smaller, but what a difference hat size makes. Whoever said size doesn't matter was a muppet. As an aside the good ladies of Oldham assure me it isn't true there either. Size always mattersGrin

If Bryn sees this you will have a job for as long as you want it. They are always short of platform assistance. Maybe you could get a promotional tee shirt made up and wear it on the platform ?

A couple more sessions are needed before a decision will be made, but probably.

300 for the masters - oh yes

Wednesday, 15th December, start 1700

When I entered the gym tonight I believed that I knew what a tight bench shirt felt like, I thought I had benched in one. During the course of the evening I discovered that I had not.

I have now.

Bench, raw, all weights in kilos

20 x 20
20 x 20
20 x 20
70 x 5
70 x 5
70 x 5
100 x 3
120 x 2
135 x 1

Joe the Terrible and Aaron have me in the shirt fairly sharpish and without too much violence. I can tell already it's tighter. When I stand I discover it's much tighter. It's only one size down from the old one but it feels like so much more.

150 x 5

In what I previously believed to be a tight shirt I sometimes had difficulty grabbing the bar, but I always could, and always in the traditional manner, that is to say with forearms vertical. I can grab the bar with the left hand but with the right I can only flail gently some four or five inches from where I what to be. Joe places my hand in position, but my forearms are almost horizontal. The spotters handed it off and from lockout the bar didn't move much, about the length of my middle finger.

170 x 3

Very similar to the previous set

190 x 3

Alan now placed a three-board on my chest, "see if you can reach that" said he. None of them did

200 x 1

Just touched the top of the threeblock

215 x F.

The heaviest weight I have ever held in my hands, and it didn't feel too bad at all. It touched, but I got the distinct impression that if I tried to press it it would go to the left instead of upwards. So I didn't try. I don't exactly know what happened. But if it hadn't happened I reckon it would have gone

200 x 1

The three board has gone and been replaxced with a two. It almost touched that. It would certainly have touched the three

All the above were pressed very nicely thank you with the exception of the 215. The initial tightness was a shock, a major shock. I can't grab the bar by myself and the forearms are in a strange position when I am aided, nor can I get anywhere near my chest - yet.

Give it a month and all should be gas and gaiters. Tonight was strange, weird, bizarre and hard work, but I have seen enough to know that it has "fun" written right the way through it.

Many thanks to Aaron, Joe and Rick for their assistance. It being Wednesday I am Oldham bound, as girl number one is finishing tonight for the holidays. GoatBoy wished her a very merry christmas in a way that ought to be more popular than it is.

I would imagine it is because the places are not 'standard' 20kg plates and so need to be elevated to be in the 'standard' starting position.

Very possibly, but the plates don't look home made. So I would have thought they would be standard, however it is possible they are not. That's why I asked
