Precisely.

I can see where the origins of these thoughts come from, but when one looks closer it is clearly bollox. However it is the standard way of winding up weightlifters, but it ceases to work if you don't react. You are young and talented and have the world at your feet. Don't bother your head about this nonsense. As the old saying goes -

The moon pays no heed to the barking of dogs.

Just curious, has Ron Collins ever openly admitted to drug use or failed a test? I assume everyone is clean until they fail a test. Although you guys are old and s**t so maybe you can tell us some good anecdotes of the culture of 70s and 80s BWLA.

Let's just say that if a man is very drunk, you don't need to start taking blood and urine to know that he is very drunk. You do need them to prove that he is drunk, but not to know it. Failure to take said samples does not mean that he was sober but it does mean that he cannot be prosecuted for drunkeness.

I have tremendous respect for the old time lifters as I do for the current crop. I was merely pointing out that some comparisons MAY not be as unfair as they seem.

I will now cease to ambush Tom's log any longer.

But Rob is genuinely drug free....

Precisely, one has gear on the outside, one has it on the inside. That cancels out in my book

Friday 18th February, start 15:40

Deadlift, raw to start with, all kilos

60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
100 x 5
140 x 5
180 x 3
old suit on, again the "Bill and Ben" method
220 x 1
230 x 1
240 x 1
250 x 1
260 x 1

Off block now, still with the suit

220 x 3
230 x 3
240 x 3
250 x 3
220 x 5

Suit off, raw bench, still kilos

60 x 10
100 x 5
to three blocks
130 x 3
140 x 3
150 x 3
160 x 3

Very wide grip, to chest

100 x 5
100 x 5
100 x 5

The place was full of weightlifters tonight, just like the old days and no bad thing too. The deadlifts are improving by the week, the suit is a touch less restrictive that it was and my lifts improve as this happens. I still can't hand-on-heart say I enjoy lifting in a suit, but it does seem that this time the game is worth the candle. Many thanks to Young Jake who stayed with me to the bitter end. Hands took a bit of a pasting tonight, but all seems well enough. Bonus visit to Oldham tonight, young Steph, lord she's a talented woman. Told you the weekend had started well.

He's the strongest 82.5kg ever lived in this country. Totaling 850ish will almost no equipment and winning several ipf worlds.

Didn't Rob Palmer recently break one of his records ? Thus possibly naking him the strongest 82.5 to have lived here

Should note, his nephew who I spoke to had a very solid build too, and hasn't touched a weight...

He done quite a few things involving fish by all accounts.

Cheese is death Tom, you know that.

For that money I'd be looking at a radio controlled, solar powered, casio G shock. Supremely accurate and virtually indestructible, but utterly soul-less

Been looking at a Superocean for a while now, whats the accuracy/power reserve like?

Never actually tested the power reserve but I think it's around 42 hours. Accuracy for mine is currently +4 seconds a day, which is within the limits, but it's going back for recalibration at the end of the month. I expect better

Wednesday, 16th February, start 16:55

Mr. Felix is amongst us tonight looking even more huge than usual, he deadlifted 380 and then announced that he wouldn't be going heavy tonight. You have to admire that outlook.

Bench, raw, all kilos

20 x 20
20 x 20
20 x 20
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
100 x 5
110 x 5
120 x 5
130 x 5
140 x 4 (dagnabbit !!!)
120 x 5

And that was that, a sandwich and some persiflage with Handsome Jeff, Jake and Respectable Ian and then off to oldham, as previously girl number one and girl number two are awol, it now transpires that girl number three is on holiday so girl number four has to step up to the plate and a very good job she made of it too. The point is gentle reader, I do have a plan "D", this is the first time it has ever been required, but it was there when needed.

I would agree. But I would add that it was a little too slow, too tentative, lacking in fluency and needing a bit more dig at the bottom.

You remember when you were a kid and you had those books where each page had a slightly different picture on it and when the pages were flicked through the image moved ?

You need to double the number of pages in your squat-book. Smoother and faster and with more confidence. Other than that - fine

It is. In the late 90's I bought a Breitling Blackbird for £1300, last summer I traded it in against a superocean for £1250. Quality watch for 11 years or so for £50 quid
