» An old, fat fool starts a log. Hope no-one minds (Go to post)26-05-2010 @ 22:38
Wednesday, 26th May, start 17:00

Just a gentle one after the weekend

Bench, raw to start with, all kilos

20 x 20
20 x 20
20 x 20
70 x 5
70 x 5
110 x 3
130 x 1
old shirt on
All to 1.5 Parker boards, Alan wants it a little lower
150 x 3
160 x 3
170 x 3
175 x 3

All very good, very little pressing on any of them which is what we were after, and all were snappier than expected.

Tricep pushdown, very strict

95 x 5
95 x 5
95 x 5
95 x 5
95 x 5

Bit of persiflage with the good Dr Rick and then off to the home of the tubular bandage where all is fun, fun, fun and there are no porcine plonkers to vex me with their conundrums

Popped along to Adders tonight just to see the chaps and for a chat. Start back Wednesday, lockouts I would assume

With meaning to sound facitious, have you thought about changing the way you warm-up so that you can get ready in 20 minutes, if need be?

Indeed I have. I believe that if I had to I could warm up in twenty minutes but only if I had a bench to myself. It is the sharing of facilities between five or more people that takes the time. I do enjoy the sharing aspect of the warm up, but under those circumstances I think twenty minutes is really pushing it without resorting to rudeness. Another five minutes would have made all the difference.

'They' were running the comp under IPF rules, one of which is...
(o) If a lifting session consists of a single group, i.e. up to a maximum of 14 lifters, an interval of 20 minutes shall be allowed between the lifts. This is to ensure adequate time for warm up and platform organization.

I had little doubt there was a rule lurking somewhere, nor am I aiming any criticism at the organisrs. I merely stated that twenty minutes to warm up really isn't very long. Those of use that thought it proved it today.

Squats are fine as you can start your warm up when you like as it's the first lift. Deadlift is ok as you are partially warmed up from the squat. Bench press - it's not long enough. Simple as that. They should change that rule.

Get in the queue. Alan knows it and now you do. No-one is more acutely aware of that fact than I am

The squats were worth a squint by all accounts. Not much else

Rick said:As I said to you earlier, Pete, the thing to take from this is that you can have a very non-ideal day off the platform and still lift well on the platform. 7/9 is good lifting in anybody's money, you're so far above your nationals quali total it's not funny, and there was a time where under the circumstances you faced today you would have packed your bag and gone home. Today you lifted well and squatted exceptionally. Now you know, and you need never worry about non-essentials again, because you have proved you can cope.

Good points well made Rick. I shall ponder this in the coming weeks
