Friday - G-Camp 5:00 pm - had not long woken up from a sneaky mid afternoon nap after yet another early start. So didn't really have it together for this class at all. One of the guys (the world champ actually lol) was laughing at how tense and stiff I was when trying to punch today. I'm always a bit tense, but it was terrible today, just no flow at all. Shows what weightlifting/too much work does ![]() Benching after Bench 20 kg: 10 30 kg: 5, 35 kg: 5 41 kg: 2, 2, 2 - my arms were really bad on these, and I found them alot harder than they should have been ![]() But this is the really surprisingly good bit: Superwide benching: 20 kg: 10 35 kg: 10, 10, 10 - I just can't believe that, it was really easy. There was no pain and the reps were much easier than 35 kg would have been normal grip right now. I have only repped 10 with 35 kg before on normal bench. I have been doing what Jim told me - starting at 20 kg and not putting the weight up until I could do it without pain, then putting it up 2.5 kg a week. Now i'm up to 35 kg for 3 sets of 10. I know it's not a massive weight, but I really think there is potential for this grip (or maybe a little bit in) to become my normal grip. Then tried military pressing, but I just can't push anything above my head right now. It's too painful. Chins - 3, 3, 3, 3, 3 Rotar cuffs - this really hurt today, even with a 2 kg dumbell Then Judo Went on my own, but luckily two other girls were there. Practiced and tried to perfect the throws I have already learnt. The first one was much better by the end, I managed to get most of the throws ok. Luckily the ones that went wrong were onto the crash mat so I wasn't responsible for any broken bones. Also learnt arm rolls and another throw which I have yet to be able to get anywhere near doing in Randori. Felt pretty good after. Arms were not too bad and hadn't interfered with Judo, but they had been really bad thursday and friday morning. So finally decided to get to a specialist today. Managed to get an appointment at the Manchester Back Clinic. I have decided, despite all my doubts about Chiropractors, to go (partly because the people I know who seem to have had the most sucess in treating injuries have been to chiropractors). I am so glad I did, he was brilliant. I had a long inital consultancy, examination and had spinal x-rays taken today. I'm going back tuesday to discuss what he thinks is the problem (after analysis of the x-rays) before starting a 4 week intenive treatment course. It's not going to be cheap, but then, I was thinking about it and figured I would have paid it if my dog needed the care (she is actually going in for a cruciate ligament operation thursday) so I can justify it myself. It seems he has a very holistic approach, so fingers crossed it will sort/at least identify the problem(s) and hopefully help both my knee and arm/shoulder pain. It looks likely I have a trapped nerve somewhere in my neck (he pressed this point and hell, it didn't half hurt) - but he hasn't given any diagnosis of yet. Intrestingly, he said I was his fourth female paitent who does Muay Thai ![]() ![]()

Wednesday - G-Camp at Trafford. Good class tonight, I was working with a good partner and my kicks were strong at the start. But then I totally ran out of energy - too many early starts this week! Tendons didn't feel too bad after I got them in a cold shower. Plus I have been good at taking my MSM and Glucosamine over the last few days. Hopefully i'll be able to keep it up and they may start to improve. Rest today - deadlifting can wait a week.

Felt a bit bad because I was obviously holding him back, but learnt alot from him. He was particularly good at pointing out where my guard was failing, where I was premoving (eg bringing my fist back slightly before punching) and helped me get my low kicks even harder by following through rather than pulling back straight after contact. His kicks were amazing, and they even managed to cure my arm pain for a bit (i think, because they went totally numb holding his pads lol). Benching afterwards was never going to happen today though - did a bit of a warm-up but then decided the best thing to do would be go home and ice my arms. Which was no mean feat - in the end I decided on the ice cold bath treatment (well, if it works for Paula Radcliff....) as there wasn't enough chips in the freezer for both elbows, both shoulders and both wrists lol. I'm feeling quite brave (read stupid) for doing it! It has helped both the soreness in my knee and arms - they are now numb instead ![]() ![]()

+55 kg on chins will be pretty impressive! Bet it feels weird doing that kind of low volume on squats after the last 4 weeks!

Originally posted by HVince... Nice session. I have done some prettyy extensive reading into glucosamine as my knees have always been the biggest problem with me. You will need to give it a minimum of 3-4 months from what i know about it. Have you decided if you want to fight yet? 3-4 months? Blimy that's a lot longer than I had heard, but i'll give it a go. It seems that MSN and Glucosamine work synergistically, so i'll be taking both. I don't suppose you found any research specifically on Glucosamine Hydrochloride (The veggie one) rather than Glucosamine Sulphate? As for fighting....well probably not yet for several reasons. Firstly, although I have more power than the vast majority of girls who go to G-Camp, it doesn't mean I know how to use it! And I am certainly only average compared to the girls who actually fight (rather than just go there and hit pads). I haven't had anywhere near enough sparring practice, and alot of the time it is with guys who tend to shy away from clomping me in the head. I did get a session with one who was not afraid to hit me the other day though, and it showed how bad my guard is alot of the time! I miss phils class for that - the guys there were never afraid of hurting the girls, so it was always good practice! I'm hoping he is going to start it up again soon. Also, I still don't really feel like competiting again after the NW comp, it really knocked my confidence in my own ability to manage under pressure. I'm hoping that the gradings in Judo (if I ever get there - very presumptious after two classes i know lol) will give me a bit of experience of competition (you grade by fighting) and I may get a bit of confidence from that. Hopefully I will have some more sparring practice and then I may be at a stage to consider competiting in Muay Thai. Either way, it certainly won't be on the 8th of July! LGB has been suitably reprimanded ![]() ![]() TBH I don't think it is specifically lifting, the tendon problems are from everything, although the question about whether I am in powerlifting for the long haul is a good one. Right now i'm really enjoying the Judo and Muay Thai, guess i'll be happy just treading water with the weights for a bit. Saying that, lifting has been going ok for the last few sessions so i'm pretty content with how things are going. As for when i'll find time to recover - that is likely to be over the next couple of weeks because work have actually decided i need to do something to earn my money (sigh - thought I was getting away with it as well ![]() Monday Evening - Judo session 2 Well, i'm doing way better than I ever imagined after just two sessions - in that a) I actually remembered most of what I was told last session and b) I learnt new stuff sucessfully today. That's a real surprise, I thought I was going to really struggle to remember all the technical side of things. This session was easy physically (I have a feeling it will be easy for a while as I am spending most time practicing the basics rather than putting them into practice). Spent the first part learning groundwork and managed to pick up several chokes, arm bars and pins. I really really like the groundwork stuff, and it isn't so hard on my shoulders. Then practiced the throws I had learnt on friday before getting to watch the big guys practice. Was working with Adam so it was good to get used to dealing with extra weight.

Saturday - rest day. I was expecting to feel like a total wreck, but actually, by the afternoon I was feeling pretty good and not too sore. Sunday - Squat day. 10 mins warm-up followed by alot of shoulder mobilising and warming up. I have alot of pain in my left shoulder at the moment, which is unusual because it is usually the right which is worse. Getting under the squat bar is the most painful thing of all, but it eased off after they had been stretched out a bit. (Co-incidently they are feeling much better today as well). Squats 20 kg: 40kg: Warm-ups 50 kg: 3 60 kg: 3 but still felt a bit off form and stiff kneed so did another 2 reps which were much better 2 65 kg: 1 72.5 kg: 5 doubles. Felt pretty good. As always, the later sets were better with the last double being the best of all. It was nicely deep and the reps flew up. Guess it shows that my problems are a confidence/practice thing and not a strength thing at this weight. Couldn't front squat because of the pain in my shoulder so did Leg extensions 21 kg: 10 28 kg: 10 35 kg: 10 42 kg: 10, 10, 10 Ran out of time, but pleased with the session. Knee was hurting after squats but felt so much better after doing leg extensions. ![]() Have started taking glucosamine and MSN again today and am planning to be pretty strict with it for a month to see if it makes any difference.

My current routine, as always, is far too much in too little time - why are there not more days in the week? It's even worse now I have to find time for Judo (i'm going to give it 4 weeks and if it turns out to be too much then i'll drop it).... Monday - Judo Tuesday - Muay Thai then Bench, Superwide bench assistance, chins, rows, shoulder rehab Wednesday - Muay Thai Thursday - Morning: Deadlifts, Deadlift assistance (plate pulls or racks depending), Speed squats, Hyperextensions, Shoulder and knee rehab, Evening: Muay Thai Friday - Muay Thai at 5 followed by CGBP, Boards, Lots of Backwork, Rehab stuff then Judo at 8:30 Saturday - Muay Thai 1:45 min class Sunday - Possibly Judo in the morning followed by Heavy squats, front squats, leg extensions and abs in the afternoon. Rest days as and when I need them - trying to get 1 in 4 or 5 at the moment.

Just realised I have yet again missed another training log goal - so much for benching 47.5 kg at the end of May ![]() Thursday Evening - G-Camp at Chorlton Don't usually train at this class, but thought I'd take the chance for more practice. Was fun and useful for technique, although deadlifting this morning had really left me weak.

Originally posted by tokar... If I was being a coach and I could just get you to do what I said, I'd tell you to start on the low side, maybe add some volume (8x3 instead of 5x3) if it was really easy, but - bench twice a week. Could have been an option - at the moment I tend to do a bench day (bench and superwide) and a tri's day (CGBP and pinpresses) so it wouldn't have been too much to switch that round. Originally posted by tokar... On the assumption that you won't be doing this I would go with the second option because I agree that 2 singles with a weight you've done 5x2 with is not a great return on 6 weeks' work - although it is possible that your strength in singles will have improved nonetheless. That's good then, because that's the one I started on! I'm hopeful it will get me back up to form for an attempt at 47.5 kg at the end. I was so bloody close to it before the comp, so fingers crossed a short cycle will be enough. |
