Ben_F said:That really is awesome lifting mate. I probably need to get more psyched up for the sandbag. I aready hurt my hand on the 75kg bag on the first session with it, only thing that has really bothered it though is the squats i did yesterday! Next session I will really go for it, thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks mate, My example above was just to show you how far you can get in a relatively short time. I still singly think it was the best bang for buck exercise there is.

Johnny (Mills), i've worked construction all my life and sandbag training made my work an absolute breeze. I set my stall out for a full year of this whilst doing maybe an 18" DL every few weeks, just because i love DL'sHappy . The goal was to eventually nail a 115 bag shouldered for 50 reps in 20 minutes, OR a 136 bag for 10 reps in 20 minutes. My other exercise was headstand pressups against a wall. I worked up to 25 straight off, and 100 in 30 minutes at 95 bw. It was an experiment and a break from the barbell.
I lost no strength on my barbell lifts after 3 months on this and i'm convinced it got me a 260 DL later in the year at that time.
One day i'll just do this sort of training all the time, sandbag and a barbell DL and nothing else.

Sorry for the long reply and hijacking your thread Ben, i get carried away..........

Oh yeah cardio wise it was the best. Its hard to explain but i just used to feel strong all the time with sandbag training.

I found this off an old message board(f**k i must have been fit then) about 5 years ago. The 100 rep workout was a nice one. I was really into the sandbag then, but snapped tendons in fingers f**ked things up. Its a great tool but be careful, especially with looser bags.
Glad you're enjoying it.

Sandbag training = shouldering a 92k sandbag 55 times in 20 minutes at 95 bw, shouldering 136k sandbag x1 at same bw, shouldering 110k sandbag for 20 reps in 20 minutes same bw, shouldering 100k bag for 60 reps then dropping to 82k bag for further 40 reps in an hour ( i think) lost all records on that one).

Clean + push press 92k bag

For the record i think sandbag training is the ultimate strength/ conditioning workout you can do, very simple yet very very effective, made me feel like Superman. The only training i've performed where its taken some major "psyching up" especially in Winter to endure 20 minutes of hell. Got strong as a bull on it. I'll give it a few more months then see if my hand can take it again,.......... @#%$ i miss the bag.

Cheers

I want to get up to 100k+, i think i'd be more competitive at that weight, plus the ole metabolism slows right down after the big 4-0 so should be easier than when i was 20 and was drinking a gallon of milk a day to get to 13 beautiful stone!Grin

Nice one Joe! I did 182x20 for s**ts and giggles a few years back, 200 would be a nice number for 20 so long as hitching is allowed on the latter reps
