» Martin Wildauer 380kgx5 and 400kgx2 Deadlift (Go to post)12-09-2009 @ 11:28
I have competed against him a couple of times this year! He has a lot of potential!! He has the group of death this year so we will see how far he is coming along!

IMO and I mean no offence to him, he will be really up against it to make the final! Having two of the favourites for WSM in Shaw and Big Z in his group, also obviously Felix is no slouch either and Stefan is very solid too!! He certainly will have a big future in the sport!!

I have to agree, why not just let Wayne do the 105's. If so many people have pulled out it's only like calling up a reserve!

I maybe doing the open myself if I have healed up enough from training by Sunday!

Wayne_Cowdrey said:Regarding the height issue and the stones... platforms don't HAVE to be silly high. What does loading a 100Kg stone onto a 6' platform prove? I've seen several guys lift a 100Kg stone at their very first attempt.

I guess it proves who can lift a 100kg atlas stone on to a 6ft platform the easiest! Tongue

minotaurJoe said:i see what y'all mean, in that like 20 kg difference in like a weight class aint gonna make alot of differenceand that the difference in strength varies alot from top to bottom, but even still after watching a few comps now, i can see that there are alot of guys in the under 105's who are like a decent height sortas 5ft 5 who are as strong as a bull and really could do well against the guys in the opens

Have to agree with JC on this one, I train with Paul (argueably the best 105 guy in Britain) and see what he can do if you put him against the top open guys he would get close on some events but most he wouldn't! Also Paul is very tall for a 105 competitor so doesn't have the disadvantage on stones etc.

Also Paul Cater would hold his own on the press and maybe a few other events.

Sorry only seen JT compete once so can't comment

At the end of the day these guys are at a huge disadvantage against the heavy weights! I know they can mix it on some events and probably even beat some decent open guys but against the top guys (again no offence) they would have no chance!

At the end of the day look at the final of BSM last year there was only one guy in it that hasn't deadlifted over 370kg, how many 105's can do that?

Well just to clarify Mariusz hasn't been 130 for a good few years, he's been 140kg or over since I have been competing (since 2005)!! Also Mariusz is an exception to the rule really! I'm not saying being heavier will always make you stronger but often that is the case!

Fact is a well trained big guy will 99% of the time beat a well trained smaller guy!

Much as I hate squatting and would obviously rather a deadlift but I feel there should be one or the other or both in a final of WSM and an overhead!

They did the same in 2006 too, not all the groups had overhead
» WSM 2009 (Go to post)11-09-2009 @ 10:21
Normally I would be very hapy to not have an overhead but this year I'm actually a little pissed off cause I have worked so hard on getting it up to a decent level.

To be honest I think it's worse they have no deadlift or squat in the final!

sounds like a nice group stage for you terry

see your vid of the fingal finger you have, how heavy is it and what size pipe was used to make it

I don't know the weight of it! it was 400kg before I cut it down but now it's 4.5m instead of 6m. It is an 8inch pipe with a 6 inch and 4 inch pipe welded inside it!
cool idea doing that, i can get a hold of all three of those size's could be a project for me over the winter but not as heavy as yours

The best advice I could give you is make it and try it with the 8inch pipe first then add the pipes as it gets easier! Don't worry about the weight! the weights at WSM are wrong! They were weighed for the first time last year and they aren't what they say they are!!

Totally agree Terry. As I've said before I just think that this can be achieved by having the three weight classes (U90kg, U105kg and opens) and then there can also be first timer comps, teenage comps etc. If we water the weight classes down so we end up with loads then I just feel this is too much.

That is cool mate, it is your opinion and I respect that!

now i feel like i'm jumping in here but, some of the comments that have be posted seem to be little te achievements of carl ken and me. i know for my self i have worked f**king hard to where i have gotten and know i can still improve naturally, i have been considering the meds way but up until now that hasen't been the case. and so for people to say that you need to eat and take juice to get to 20 stone+. is harsh on the people who train and work hard for there gains. just my ten pence worth

If you look at what I wrote it was a question to David as he stated that everyone can get to 20 stone. IMO that is not true some people can do it naturally and they are the lucky ones! But not everyone can which is why I asked the question!!

I know Great strength levels can be achieved without the use of Meds! I got to WSM without taking anything so know it can be done first hand

My opinion is if it gets more people involved in the sport it is a good thing! Some guys just aren't physically capable of getting up to really heavy BW's. I'll be honest I find the most entertaining comps to watch are the novice ones! I think there is room for all weight classes and all levels (novice, intermediate and open). The sport is small enough as it is so why not bring more people into it?

and we have the winning post from probably the biggest strongest bloke on here ! who might I add I'm guessing was a big stong old lad as a teenager.

LOL, could say that I guess! I was 19stone 6 at 19 with 13% BF and yes that was tested not just a guess!

f**k it the more the merrier! We need more interest in the sport! People can relate better to the events when they have done them!

Some guys will gain easier than others at a young age, ie. Carl and myself who were both 20stone+ at late teens. Don't penalise guys and not allow them to compete just because they have better genetics than other teenagers.

So you and Carl have better genetics because you were 20stone in your teens??

For growth yes. How many teenagers that train that you know are 20stone+?

None, but most people could get to 20stone if they ate enough

You really believe that with no Juice and still remaining well condtioned enough to do strongman? I think some people just aren't capable of it!

My events are, Keg Toss, Fingers, deadlift, Truck pull, Stones, and a Medley which is run with an atlas stone drop it in a sled and drag it back!

Great events for you.

Can't complain mate! On the medley I did it in 2006 and got the quickest time of everyone!! Truck pull is a banker, stones will be good (I like running with them), I am gonna cream the deadlift this year! I actually have a finger to train with now so hoping for knocking a few seconds off my British record and the keg toss should be pretty good too!

good stuff , runnin with the atlas stone will be fun , i presume it will be massive ! hope you dont have any problems competing in your magic sock combination !

I know I will do well! I am stronger than I was in 2007 and more well rounded too only trouble is some others might be too! I have got a few different combinations for each day :-)
