So it is possible to be in shape to pull huge deadlifts and win WSM at the same time?

Genetics really count. Shaw is a natural giant, and so can be in shape to pull huge and win WSM. Hall could win WSM at a lighter BW, without this excessive focus on the deadlift.

I still reckon Shaw is near his equal. Wsm will prove this.

100% agree. Hall at 150kgs would be such a challenger for WSM.

I pulled once a month at most when competing. I trained safety bar squats heavy triples once a week, and stones, yoke and farmers in a heavy, distance/reps, speed sequence. Just could not progress with frequent deadlifting.

And yet the second best deadlifter is nailed on favorite?

Because he's won the event multiple times, and is actually a great strongman, rather than just a great deadlifter. He hasn't had to take insane measures to become 190kgs. Hall is the strongest man on earth-as I've said before-but the WSM decides the best strongman. Hall is not the best strongman by a long shot.

I normally agree with you but you swore blind Hall wouldn't pull 500kg. He did and by your own admission with more in the tank. I can't see why he can't win this contest.
I can't see Shaw pulling 1000lb on a normal bar. Hall will win the DL with a fast 450 ish and be ok for rest of comp.
Hall will win bb press, dl and stones

Getting in shape to pull 500kgs vs. win WSM is apples and oranges.

u right buddy
but thats mostly becasuse 4 months earlier he struggled with 465 at Arnolds and i believe a few thought he will get into 500kg shape
but i still think chances of Hall winning WSM are equal to Levrone winning the Olympia

Hall and Levrone will both be 3rd at best, although I'd love Levrone to win.

Watched the womens cycling road race, where the Dutch athlete had the horrific crash. One of the worst things I've ever seen tbh. Looked like she was dead. Very lucky to be alive.

lol at the fanboys because he's English/British. He has no chance of winning the WSM at 180kgs BW, that's just a fact.

FAT_SAM said:Z out, Shaw with half a hamstring and Thor looking average. Not that Hall needs anyone to be below par to win but all this is making it look real good for him this year!

All these problems for others and still he has only one event he can expect to win.

Kevin Nee?
He must still be under 30 but feels like a lifetime since he last competed.

Kevin Nee is exactly the example of rapid drug gains, quick blowout and zero improvement. Add in being riddled with injuries and you get someone at best stalling for ten yrs, whilst the sport moves on. Say what you like about Poundstone, but he won his comps, made his name, and got out healthy-ish.

will he ever improve static strength
his pressing was up with 5-10 kilos on log for 5 years ??
his deadlift improved for a while
at this age every year he should be stronger and stronger
i see no serious competitors steadily improving year after year that can match Shaw and Z consistensy
the reason ?
for me the standart is too high for new comers, hard to keep on improving and stay injury free

Agree with you. The level is so high as to almost be disheartening for others. I also think that the massive drug use route leads to fast gains, but quick plateau and serious problems. Anyone that tall will struggle to put 210plus overhead,no matter what they weigh, so improvement there seems limited. Thors also a genuine superstar compared to the rest, and young, so its little wonder his eyes have wandered from the WSM winners trophy.

Nonsense to pull more than once a fortnight after a basic 6 month beginners phase. Squat 2x a week etc, but don't be crazy and pull often. It's a fools errand.

Was just about to post about this, he ain't looking as strong as you'd expect at this stage...

His natural athleticism and levers allow him to dominate these events. His strength is way down.

Just checked out his facebook, comfortable 200kg x 2 push press a while back and 185kg farmers for 15m rather quickly!

Amazing that someone who can walk so easily with such immense weights, struggles so much to deadlift.
