Terry is looking to employ a coach after his poor performances' this year. Good that he's not retiring. Some absurd suggestions being sent his way.

Didn't see him getting last in this, tears maybe?

He's crap at moving due to being vastly overweight, terribly unfit. Even as a lighter man he struggled with these events.

Mikeneto said:If they put in arm over arm, types flipping, chain dragging, odd object lifting, husafelt stone, Hercules Hold etc in the final..Shaw becomes even more dominant. Basically the farm-boy events.

The current format actually allows guys like Z, Ed and Lalas to stay competitive for the title.

Z would be fine with those events. Pol forget how good he is at moving events. More moving would be bad for the powerlifters, but they can always do powerlifting.

Maybe it needs some of the outrageous lifts back... tug of war with a truck or something?!

Need to test different aspects. Keep the super heavy static lifts, but have long distance arm over arm pulls, more strapless carries, odd lifts, strength ladders. As it is it's rapidly becoming a sport for only the giants, even at the WSM which is the pinnacle of the sport

Ppl claiming they have stronger upper bodies than the WSM winner, haha, some crazy drugs being smoked by forum members.

Who cares how it gets overhead. Shaw is as good overhead as Hall overall.

You say strolling, i saw a man who was totally knackered and blowing out his arse. Admittedly we don't know what he did before that video etc but he hasn't shown anything to suggest he isn't going to struggle on that event. An event which thor and Shaw are probably the two best in the world at as well as there being plenty of other good throwers there.

Standby my view he'll struggle to complete event, and be miles away from top

I think it's exactly the sort of thing that should be in WSM. Lift an awkward as f**k piece of apparatus above your head anyway you can.
Pretty much what strongman is all about.

Exactly. The sport is not about allegedly strict lifts.

FAT_SAM said:Loooooool at the ridiculousness of people suggesting Shaw beats Hall at any overhead event other than log. The only event he will is DB ... Shaw is the best in the world at this with his perfectly timed jumping and catching but he never actually presses it.

We'll see who wins soon. Who cares how it gets overhead? Pressing versus lobbing, it all takes immense strength and technique.

I seem to remember ed having the best technique on it last year as he didn't wait for the bar to stay still and basically used the initial bounce from catching the bar in the rack position to get the press started. Everyone else seemed to wait for it to settle before pressing.
Unfortunately for Ed though it sounds like that event might be light enough that it doesn't necessarily favour the strongest presser but the fittest. Also even if he does win the event without most of the other real monster pressers like lalas and radz there I can't see him putting too much distance between him and Shaw/thor on this event.

Shaw loses to Hall in one lift-Log, that's it. Not barbell, dumbbell or anything else. There'll be no gap because Shaw will match or beat Hall.

I've heard this from a bunch of people but after all the footage I've seen of him i can't see him even making the finals. Didn't look anywhere near athletic enough and everyone and there dog seems to be pulling 900lb+ these days.

You must not have watched much footage then. This is 900 powerlifting rules, not strapped, suited, hitched, soft lockout and weighing 400lbz

Kaz would win WSM now if he was in 1980 shape, pre-pec tear. 660bench, 900plus raw squat, near 900 dead, seated 500 pressing. Fast as f**k, and an ego that makes Hall seem like a beta male. He was an in shape. 330. Pure beast.

Thor is quick...Jenkins was as well. They're just super strong as well...far better strongmen than early 2000's strongmen.
The only strongmen of old I actually see would compete with today's are Kaz and OD. Also Viraystyk but he was in the crossover period anyway.

Both these men are /were natural giants who took gear, not big men who went crazy with insulin etc.

samue1son said:Man, I really miss the early 2000s Strongman. The guys, for the general public were still abnormally strong but at 120-145kg avg, seemed humanly attainable. They could sprint a bit. Jog a bit. Some of them were crossover athletes.
This pure size and static strength priority has taken away (by my narrow view) the Ultimate strong/fit vision.

I fully expect most competitors now to have a coronary mid-lifting.

This is why I admire Loz, who is at least naturally lighter than the big boys and yet still shifts and keeps up/at the top.

He's a real athlete, like Thor. The sport is like bodybuilding-doomed tp cult status, with most gym goers thinking its a freakshow of fat lads massively abusing gear. CrossFit is the men's physique of the strength world.

FAT_SAM said:A 500kg deadlifter isn't gonna agree to just pull 450.... If you pull 300 max you wouldn't agree to just do 270
Hall will win the overhead, the dl and the stones

Hell lose to Shaw on all the events, bar deadlift.
