Safety bar squats

115 X 5
117.5 X 5
117.5 X 5
117.5 X 5

Think these squats were shallower than what I have been doing, which is a good thing, I've been going far too deep.

Db flat bench press

40 kg each db 3 sets of 5.
20 kg each set 1 set of 12.

Sled pulled one way then pushed back. 150 kg (not incl. weight of sled) 4 sets. With one extra additional push.

I hope mine wasn't. I was just sharing my experience in case other might be feeling the same way.

I am much better now. I have been talking Paroxetine since early this summer and it has made a huge difference. It has allowed me to help myself. Getting back into lifting has help me a lot. As does going for walks, and communicating with people. The point I want to make is that you can overcome these things.

I would talk about this to anyone, on a forum or in real life. The problem is some men are emotionally immature and feel uncomfortable if you discuss your mental health problems. The manly thing to do is to talk about these issues. It is childish not to.

Thanks Paul.

I am new to strongman so I have never had the experience of stalling, or even of reaching my goals. I will keep on following your journal, its interesting. The one thing that has helped massively so far is training my grip.

Any tips of how to make home made strongman stuff? I have collect enough implements for pinches. Made a 2.5 inch thick wrist roller. I've got a sand bad which it good for all sorts, and I should soon be getting a keg. Any other ideas?

Cheers Paul.

You should do more videos mate. I can't understand your training at all. It seems very peculiar, even stupid...but I am obviously wrong about that and the problem is that I just don't understand it..your videos show your ability and the fact that you helped your girlfriend win the title means you are doing something right. I don't exactly train conventionally myself if I am honest.

How do you plan your routines...do you do a lot of self regulation?

I hope your injury heals soon. I've got some lower back muscular pain...caused by sitting improperly for several hours and then suddenly standing up.

Well, I'm trying to incorporate more and more strongman style activities. Running up and down the stairs with a sandbag seems to tick many of the right boxes. I can feel my abs burn whilst doing it, so my core is getting worked. Obliviously it taxes my arms, and it makes my calves ache the day after, so I think it is taxing my body in a way it is used to.

People dont expect people like us to have feelings.
Whilst being treated for combat stress i was sharing a wing with some hard core USAF-SF chaps.
Turns out even badasses have a breaking point.

I try to be upbeat in the very few posts I make to this forum.

But, there is a background to my recent re-entry to the lifting world, and that is I am using it to regain my confidence as my worth as a human... I am suffering from PTSD.

The last two years of my life cannot be described as any form of life worth living. People talk about flashbacks. My flashback have been almost continuous...all day long, non-stop.

I have cut myself off from the world almost completely. The constant anxiety has caused me to grind my teeth so much they are wearing away. A lot of my hair has dropped out and I look like crap. That's why I don't upload training videos.

Fortunately, I have experienced some improvement and I am dedicated to making recovery. I am now able to talk to people in the gym, and I can go to the pub and socialise. People tell me I look and sound better.

I was an ambitious, successful and confident person before all of this.

When I am better I would like to train in Addlington, I could at go to train there at least once a week. When I get my confidence back I would like to go....I'd like to learn how to clean and press etc. I probably have the piss taken out of me but that the story of my life.

I must sound like a strange person, but I have a surprisingly normal exterior and my behaviour is normal. That's the thing about being mentally disabled, you don't have a wheelchair to make you stand out.

I hope you have recovered from your PSTD. It's very tough.

Steve

Awkward thick pinch grip 5.5 kg. Couldn't hold it long at all 10 seconds max.

Then walked up and down the stairs repeatedly with a sandbag in my arms....did 3 sets of this.

Did some more of my pinch grip...could hold it a bit longer this time...more warmed up. Also did double hand pinch grip of my 11.3 kg, thick and awkward plate.

Did another set of up and down stairs with sandbag .

Did 2.5 inch thick wrist roller, now with 10 kg. 3 sets supinated 3 sets pronated.

Did the awkward thick 5.5 kg pinch grip again, this time held about 60 seconds each hand, despite have been battered by the wrist roller...it seems I need a lot of warming up for pinch grips.

2 sets of planks each 60 seconds long.

Sorry to hear about your back mate. I'm prone to lower back pain and have been in the position where I can hardly move. I constantly do stretches and mobility work for it, and the last few months my back has been better than its been for years.

I've also given up on aiming for big singles. I think my powerlifting days are over. I've decided to try strongman. I´m actually really enjoying it. It has helped my shed a bit of fat, and my general fitness has improved a lot. twice a week in gym, and once at home. I've been running up and down the stairs with a 40 kg sandbag in my arms.

Eating 16 frankfurters a day is strange behaviour.

Safety Bar Squats

110 X 5
115 X 5
115 X 5
115 X 5

Db presses 3 sets of @ 35 kg each db. Should have done more but felt demotivated.

CGBP 60 kg, 3 sets of 8.

Sled pull, immediately followed by prowler pushingit back into starting position. 3 sets. First set @ 100 kg. Last 2 sets @ 150 kg.

(perhaps prowler isn't right word..used the handles at the front)

Thick bar seated rows. 3 sets.

Ham curls 3 sets (need to strength hams).

Finished with rope machine but felt pretty battered from sleds so didn't last as log as usual.

I am really enjoying this strongman stuff.

I have been following a similar approach. I ditched squats do to a chronic injury. I decided to focus on deads, and I switched normal bar squat with SB squat. At first it was awkward. But it has strengthened my back massively. Also I can squat a lot deeper with sb, which obviously inst necessarily good. These two things meant my squat weight went down massively. It has taken me a while but my weights are now moving upwards.

I find it does help deadlift because of improve back strength. But because the weights were lower, my leg strength is now an issue on deads and it wasn't before. Hopefully your narrow stance will help with that.

Now I am doing strong man, I love my SB squats.

Hello.

Those lifts are good, especially considering your weight. You have an acceptable basis of strength, and from this you can build much more if you choose to. I will follow your progress.

I have been zerchering using a sand bag for 20 squats. The sand bag is about 40 kg but i intend to increase this with the addition of more sand or a similar material.

Does this sufficiently count as an acceptable method of zerchering?
