Buddha said:I had a discussion about forward lean and my question is: are lifters with long legs and women damned to practice good mornings instead of skwats?

He did say that Sheikos opinion is wrong and that it's impossible for most lifters to squat with a upright torso. His opinion is basically that they have to do good mornings.
So i ask the hall of Sugden what is your opinion?

(can't insert a picture)

all sorts of factors govern forward lean

levers - femur length, tibia length and back length ratios.
flexibility - ankles, hips, abductors (shape/angle of femoral head and hips affect whether you can ever get down with a very wide setup)

i'm lucky to have decent squat levers (short femurs and long back) so can narrow stance, low bar and still be quite upright.
but even a deadlifter build can still stand upright if he can get a lot of knee travel and/or take a wide stance.

Ralls
Squats
Warmups back a little fatigued today so plenty
70 x 6
100 x 2
130 x 2
170 x 2 old wraps loose
200 x 2 belt
230 x 2 2.5m wraps
250 x 6 2.5m wraps paused last rep lol
210 x 2 old wraps paused
220 x 2 paused

Deadlifts
70 x 2
100 x 1
120 x 1
170 x 1
210 x 1 now off 3" blocks dohg no hook
250 x 2 straps + belt on
280 x 3 lovely speed on these
300 x 3 PB no real grinding either

Took a preworkout shot thing worked great felt strong and energised
Back felt a little 'off' so reps on squat and block pulls.

250 x 6 is a proper PB did 255 x 6 while back but these where s**tty high reps
300 x 3 was after all that squatting and on an IPF stiff bar. very pleased with that, definitely moving towards 700 pound land deadlifting now.

» Where do you buy Equipment, Barbells and Powerracks? (Go to post)09-12-2015 @ 09:58
Buddha said:90% of my Equipment is from strength-shop tough I was searching for a Rack that has a close hole sizing, similar to westside racks. When I did look up on this I found only american manufactures who prodcue Racks like that.

Also Yokebars, or Safety Squat Bars, there is Sportkraft but they charge around 500€.

is this of interest? rogue r4 -http://www.rogueeurope.eu/rogue-r-4-power-rack-eu - looks like it has the bench press spacing you're after and a europe toplevel domain (.eu) so i'd assume that's good for you?

I am doing it natural so do I need to find a tested event to be competitive even at Novice level?

Bench paused
warmup 10 mins then
Bar x loads
70 x 8
100 x 5
120 x 3
140 x 3
155 x 3
170 x 3

Slingshot on
180 x 3 - maybe PB can't remember
190 x 3 - PB

Feet up bench (calf cramp forcing this)
130 x 10 tng then long pause last rep

Standing OH press
20 x 12
60 x 5
80 x 5

190 was a nice PB but last rep much harder than should been due to cramp in calf forcing me to lift leg off ground halfway through.

Not done standing OHP for ages weight was easy enough but shoulders terrible flexibility so leaning back too much. won't be doing them again for that reason lol

The term "raw with wraps" does amuse me. It's a bit like "seedless with pips".

It's called 'modern raw' alongside
the wrap free 'Classic raw' and
'Raw with multiply suits, briefs and shirts'

St. Helens gym with friend think it called exercise 4 less - not bad place has a lifting platform, chains and some crossfit apparatus

squat high bar paused
Bar x 5,3,3
60 x 5,
100 x 2,
140 x 2,
180 x 2 light 2m wraps
200 x 2 tighter
220 x 2 belt on
240 x 2 - a high bar PB but I don't do them often so a bulls**t one really.

Rows off floor
70 x 5
110 x 3
140 x 3
170 x 3 straps
190 x 3

Pulldowns
5 x 5 up to entire stack (134kg)

Rack pretty crap commercial gym thing with a choice of too high or far too low so did high bar so could unrack.

One of those gyms where you get an audience going over 4 plates on squats too.

I'll add 3 things: openers, warmups and rack heights...

not sure how gbpf work but assume you'll be asked to set rack heights for
squats and bench early on. With squat walkout you'll either want stands in or out and a pin height, bench is just a pin height. There'll be a few lifters all doing this so don't feel rushed, take your time and get loaders to adjust the equipment until it feels right for you.

At weigh in openers will be asked for so as said before pick easy ones being your first meet. Don't deviate from what your training is at. completely ignore what others are doing.

Warmups - aim to start 30-40 mins before your flight gets called to platform. Hopefully be other lifters around in your flight. listen for announcements don't be afraid to ask official or other lifter exactly when (times tend to drift here). Key to warmup again is you'll be with others again which you may be unused to if train alone. Always take your time and put the weights on you want to warmup with, again don't worry what others are doing - this is a warmup for 3 attempts, not a training session, so keep reps low and go up to about a 90% of planned opener. If you are opening conservatively as you should first comp then all should feel good here.

bench local gym

Warmup all reps paused
60 x 6,
80 x 4,
100 x 3,
110 x 3,3 narrow then wide
120 x 3,3 same
130 x 3 wide
140 x 3 wide

Close grip slingshot
150 x 3,
165 x 3

Seated press overhead
60 x 5,
70 x 5,
80 x 5

Feeling easier no pec problems. wider grip experiment continues its relentless march to the promised land of a 5-plate bench!

Bit of the Michael flatelys going on with the legs - need to tighten everything up and drive hard off the chest, legs and glutes flexing like crazy. your spotter needs to hand off better forcefully up and then out. Here's my 195kg check out how Tom Griffin does it for me right over me and lifting the bar up and out...

Don't think many arch hard on here - the guide on 'powerliftingtowin' sounds most sensible - namely keep practicing the setup trying to get your feet further down the bench more thoracic arch etc... Aren't you being coached by Amit Sapir? what does he say?
» How strong is strong? (Go to post)03-12-2015 @ 19:08
Agree with fazc - 4-3-5 SBD is going to be strong in most gyms . most people don't train so in general pop even that would be beyond belief for them - Ive seen a few average slim noob males struggling with 40-50kg on bench
