So far I've been really enjoying it but if anything I would say some of the events are to heavy. Favors the massive guys a little too much. In the first heat there was no Super yoke/Power stairs/Hussafelt stone style event. I always feel they should have something like that in. A test of grip would be nice as well. Would love to see the current guys do Herculees hold for example.

The one where Columbo wrecked his leg was horrible, basically running along in a good morning position with a huge fridge on your back. Next stop snap city.

I don't no about Arm wrestling but I would like to see a combat style event. I liked the "sweeter snatcher" event Glenn Ross ran in the UKs one year.

I saw something on fb about how no Welsh guys have had an invite. Apparently mark jeanes messaged the organisers but got no reply.
I agree about Tom stoltman, he was unlucky not to beat Luke at the Scottish last year and lost out due to one bad event. Big Zake muluzi who was third at scotland's strongest man could do some damage too.
I don't like the current format which seems to be all English guys with the odd token Scottish or Irish guy in there.

Mark Jeanes was the guy I was trying to think of. Personally I think he deserves a go. Do they have 12 or 10 competitors for giants live?

I also agree with those saying Tom Stoltman deserves an invite. Be good to have a Scot doing well on the world scene.

Looks about right. Lloyd was taking a break from strongman, don't think he's returning yet or considering it. Would be great to see him back. I believe there's another guy making a big comeback though...

Sadler again? I know he has tried before. Considering it's his event getting a spot shouldn't be too hard.

Yeah i was thinking that I hadn't seen anything from LLoyd in a while. Thinking about it there will probably be a Welsh guy in there as well.

Brits only is good. Line up could be something like -

Hollands
Hall
Shahlaei
Felix
Bishop
Gearing
Frampton
Stoltman
O'Hagan
Renals

Really enjoying it.

Couple of things I noticed -

Felix has looked really strong throughout.

Looking forward to seeing Licis at the worlds in 2016.

Thor's 450 deadlift was an awesome lift. Also very impressed by Heinla.

Terry looked huge (just the girth of his legs!) and it's great to see him back.

If Terry comes back and is on form, and if Shahlaei and Hicks can return from their injuries are the top 5 Brits now better than the top 5 Americans?

Didn't Ted Van der parre have a pretty epic 80s pornstar moustache?
EDIT
Also Shaw had a funny little beard for at least one of his wins.

Magnus Ver had a goatie kind of arrangement when he won in 96 as well.

donnie said:brian shaw

just doesnt have it in him
natural stentgth genetics, brute power

cant put him in the same category with Z and Kaz

u cant suck in pressing and considered as the strongest overall at the same time

also this attitude "im the best ever, im a legend and so on "... its pathetic

if shaw had injury like Z and couldnt deadlift as normally the whole f**kin world would have known, the man just likes excuses

no doubt he was the most prepared anyway

Why is pressing so much more important than anything else?

Maybe in the interest of balance it is worth pointing out that while Brian's biggest weakness gets hit in every WSM final, the organisers have decided to completely abandon events that would test Z's biggest weakness. His grip.

I don't see why Shaw's "poor" pressing means he can't be considered a great but Z has just as big a weakness.

225 isnt that serious weight and doesn affect if injury is there
going on your logic the strongest at squat should be the best at yoke

There is a pretty strong correlation between Squat and super yoke. So much so that I don't really think they should be in the same contest. The tall guys do better at yoke because they don't have to get into a low position and it is height adjusted at WSM.

I concede though that you don't need to get down low for power stairs either.

extremely stupid comment
he dominated that event in 2012 360kg x 8 no hitch perfect reps with more in the tank
im sure he has the highest rack pull 18 inch deadlift ever 540 kg X 2 before ASM 2014

So what could have affected him on deadlift and not power stairs?

Perhaps he has simply regressed slightly at deadlift or maybe just had an off day. The latter in my opinion.

Z is obviously nursing some kind of injury or problem. He seemed to be going very slowly, but didn't appear to be at the limit as there was no hithcing at the top. Not the first time he's had issues (2013 WSM and evident at Arnold this year).
I suspect he has to be careful at Super Yoke as well if it is a lower back problem.
Not taking anything away from Shaw. Even with Z at his best I think it would be very close between those two.

If he really did have a lower back problem do you not think he would have struggled on power stairs and heavy stones.

I can't see how anyone with a significant back problem could finish second over 6 events that were ridiculously back dominated.

Hes a really nice guy. He was more suprised than anyone he didnt know hed gone thru.
I do hope they scrap it next yr tho

Fair enough. I know it's not his fault he was put through like that, so my annoyance should not be directed towards him. TBH I am sure I would have taken the place in his situation as well.

Just feel sorry for Zageris who performed really well.

I did actually like the wildcard places they had for the final last year.

apparently he was injured before going into the final, but decided to go anyway instead of letting the first reserve go (kinda what Misha did a few years back)
I know you automatically get more money just for being in the final, but I don't really like that move

Especially when Pritchett have no business being in that final anyway.

LaTuta said:Wow that is really really strange. Why is Z so "weak" this year? I am very curious if he comes back next year if he places bad this year.

I don't think Z is out of form. It has been pretty obvious for a few years that people are starting to overtake him on deadlift. I expected Shaw and Ed to beat him there.

What I didn't expect was Thor out lifting him as well.
