Z's deadlift has stayed the same whilst overs have improved. He's no longer in the conversation for best dead lifter in the world.

We can't see the ends of the bar in the photo. I hope you are right but I suspect it will have a fair amount of whip.

I suspect when it's loaded it will have a lot of flex.

Bit odd to describe the current WSM as past his best. How incredible he must have been at his best if so.

Mikeneto said:Radz is going to do damage at Arnold's Australia 2 weeks after...in the most recent comp he pisses a 215kg log, 410kg deadlift and 120kg dumbbell.

Looking at how close Radz was to the 228 log in Brazil I think he could well get it down under.

Shaw majorly hyping up this lift. Anything less than 455kg will be disapointing now.

The_Lone_Wolf said:It might be a little harsh to compare strongman of old, to todays guys. The reason is, it's one of those trend things where one guy hits a certain number and then others see it can be done and then start hitting them too.

Look how many guys can pull 400kg now, or press 180kg plus... Going back a few years, very few were hitting those numbers.

I'm sure if Kaz was around today, he could post some bigger numbers, but in his prime he only lifted what he needed to hit to win.

And of course the modern guys will train max's a lot more than a late 90s strongman would becasue how often did we see a max deadlift or max log in a WSM final between 99 and 2010?

So when someone like Karlson was training his focus would not have been on one reping massive weights.

shaws fans love excuses

what about Z yoke last year
he said in lithuanian interview they were instructed to push the tape down only not the line
they helped Shaw win not deserved victory

I honest don't have a preference over Z and Shaw.

Robbo91 said:Not trying to be inflammatory at all, just out of interest why do people think the organisers (Terry Todd et al) of the Arnold want Z to win it over Shaw?
If I knew nothing about it my first instinct would be that a comp like that would have a pro American bias more than anything.

No idea why but if Todd isn't trying to engineer a Z win then a lot of coincidences have gone on down the years.

If I was to guess I would say it's because Z is renowned as being the strongest man in the world. Arnold's prides itself on using the heaviest weights to find the true strongest guy. It's possible that they see anything other than Z win as potentially damaging to that image.

I think even WSM has gone out of it's way to avoid hitting Z's weaknesses in the past few years but it hasn't gone about it as actively as the Arnold's.

I agree. I don't see the point of 2 overhead events. I suspect the dumbbell is in there for the "circus like" nature of the event and perhaps also to close the gap on Big Z when it comes to overhead - that could be way off base as a reason, but it does work that way. Then again, some will argue that allowing straps on a heavier timber carry favors Z.

The comp is designed to make a Z win as likely as possible. Two overheads, no stones, straps on frame after Z struggled without, thin handle on dumbell after Z struggled with the thick handles.

Personally I would love them to do a Hercules hold type event. Grip isn't tested anything like enough in modern strongman.

HeavyFuel said:I don't mind watching yoke. It's still impressive, but I agree the weight is getting a bit ridiculous as someone is bound to get injured at that weight. Max weight/strength is what the Arnold's are all about though.

Then again, a 300lb dumbbell is ridiculous too - while you need to be super strong it becomes much about technique as well. I prefer functional events that test pure power.

I wouldn't mind seeing stones, but I would actually prefer rocks with irregular shape like the Fortissimus competition some years back.

To have Log and Dumbell in the same 5 event comp is daft anyway. I would love to see hugely heavy natural stone loading.
» Thor deadlift pb (Go to post)09-02-2016 @ 19:04
Thor always gets underrated going into major comp. His PB is 20kg more than Z's so he has to be fancied.

LaTuta said:kielizkowski is a phenomenon.
6 easy reps with 185kg on the log at his bodyweight/stature is immense.
Didn't he get the most reps with the small log at the Arnolds last year??

And Radzikowski is so f**king strong at the moment.
He did a really really easy 380kg x 2 squat with just sleeves and belt and now his 217kg log.
I hope he gets called to the asc.
look at this world record attempt on log last year :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phYSKEtVEpk it wasn't that far off.

Christ that was all but there! Just needed to lock his right elbow.

I think Radz does to many contests. Makes it hard to be in peek shape for WSM or Arnolds.

Hard to believe he has only made one WSM final. To be honest he had by far the easiest group in 2015 and finished 4th. He missed out in 2013 and 2011 as well.

Robbo91 said:What are the biggest log presses ever done in comp outside of Z.
Is it Radz with 215kg? Then Eddie and Hixxy with 211kg?

Mike Jenkins got ever so close to 220kg.

Would have been a new world record at the time.
