I can't do that. The minute something starts stressing me I just do it. I think its normal to stress about things, especially if you have down time, but it takes all the joy out of life if your not able to relax.

Cuddles said:Steve - I think the track issue is an interesting one. I wonder if anyone has done any analysis of track speeds because it's common knowledge that there are 'fast' tracks. I wonder if all tracks are now faster than they were? Not a suggestion, as I have no idea.

I was reading this the other day:
http://www.ted.com/talks/david_epstein_are_athletes_really_get...

"In 1936, Jesse Owens held the world record in the 100 meters. Had Jesse Owens been racing last year in the world championships of the 100 meters, when Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt finished, Owens would have still had 14 feet to go. That's a lot in sprinter land. To give you a sense of how much it is, I want to share with you a demonstration conceived by sports scientist Ross Tucker. Now picture the stadium last year at the world championships of the 100 meters: thousands of fans waiting with baited breath to see Usain Bolt, the fastest man in history; flashbulbs popping as the nine fastest men in the world coil themselves into their blocks. And I want you to pretend that Jesse Owens is in that race. Now close your eyes for a second and picture the race. Bang! The gun goes off. An American sprinter jumps out to the front. Usain Bolt starts to catch him. Usain Bolt passes him, and as the runners come to the finish, you'll hear a beep as each man crosses the line. (Beeps) That's the entire finish of the race. You can open your eyes now. That first beep was Usain Bolt. That last beep was Jesse Owens. Listen to it again. (Beeps) When you think of it like that, it's not that big a difference, is it? And then consider that Usain Bolt started by propelling himself out of blocks down a specially fabricated carpet designed to allow him to travel as fast as humanly possible. Jesse Owens, on the other hand, ran on cinders, the ash from burnt wood, and that soft surface stole far more energy from his legs as he ran. Rather than blocks, Jesse Owens had a gardening trowel that he had to use to dig holes in the cinders to start from. Biomechanical analysis of the speed of Owens' joints shows that had been running on the same surface as Bolt, he wouldn't have been 14 feet behind, he would have been within one stride. Rather than the last beep, Owens would have been the second beep. Listen to it again. (Beeps) That's the difference track surface technology has made, and it's done it throughout the running world. "

The swimming was interesting too.

This is the biggest con going.
Now the IMF have received repayment of its loans to the Greeks they want the EU/ECB to burn the debtors i.e. the EU taxpayers who just bailed them out of Greece.

They tried a debt haircut and it didn't stop this fact. The Greeks were in a hole and decided to elect the best diggers they could find, then ask European tax payers to buy the shovels. They found out quickly that this wouldn't work, Varoufakis went back to his mansion like the good champagne socialist should, and now an actual modernising can take place.

There hasn't been a debt haircut. The Greeks wanted one. The ECB/European Finance Ministers said there could be no debt write-off within the Eurozone.

Luke82 said: Greece's state run industries had to be privatised as they didn't function as state assets, so they will be sold off. The highest bidder got this particular contract. There is no conspiracy to unearth.

This is just political crap. Lots of countries have successfully run state companies. Greek airports are hugely profitable and they wouldn't be worth anything to the Hedgefunds buying them if they weren't.
Selling them off takes that profit from the exchecquer (reducing its ability to pay the debts) and passes it into the hands of a German corporation.
That's not good or bad, but its not the only economic model and it certainly isn't the only economics that work. One of the most successful companies in Europe and the 11th biggest company in the world, is 50% owned by the Norweigan people. Statoil (State Oil.) That is why they have the best living standards in Europe.
The argument that Nationalised industry is bad for people is just right wing tabloid economics.

Another doping story. Sorry if its a repost. Not getting any coverage in Ireland.

"The research undertaken involved interviews with 1,800 athletes at the 2011 world championships in Daegu, South Korea, with the results showing that 29-34 percent of those asked had broken anti-doping rules over the last 12 months."

Reading this convinced me its a poison.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/news/11707396/Sugary-drinks...

"It said 133,000 deaths from diabetes, 45,000 deaths from cardiovascular disease and 6,450 deaths from cancer were caused by fizzy drinks, fruit drinks, energy drinks and sweetened ice teas in 2010."
^^^^^^
It's a poison.

www.diabetes.org/diabetes-basics/statistics/#sthash.oMT1FTd...
"Deaths: Diabetes remains the 7th leading cause of death in the United States in 2010, with 69,071 death certificates listing it as the underlying cause of death, and a total of 234,051 death certificates listing diabetes as an underlying or contributing cause of death."
Steve said:
Excess water is far more deadly than excess sugar (a triathlete died a couple of weeks ago from drink too much during an Ironman), but just like sugar it doesn't mean it's poisonous and needs to be avoided.

A consumption of sugar related disease is the 7th biggest killer in America. As young people consume more sugar in their diet this will rise in the future. If consuming water was that bad it would be above diabities/sugar right?

Just too many people doing too little and eating too much.

^ is what the coke funded study is saying.

There is a lot of data now that says sugar consumption causes metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome causes the body to crave food when full and is a big cause of obesity.
Sugar also causes diabetes and fatty liver.
Sugar is a poison in short and is killing us.
Coke funding counter science that blames lack of activity instead of consumption of too much poison is confusing the debate.

Western High Sugar diet started with low fat in the 60's/70's were they took fat out of food and replaced it with high sugar content to extend shelf life and used sugar to replace the fats flavour. Just look at milk. Raw milk has 4.6g of lactose sugar. Whole pasteurised milk has 12g. UHT is higher again.

Because they are paying scientists to come up with data which is then used to fool Joe Bloggs into thinking drinking sugar isn't bad for obesity.

If I'd the bobs and a month off I'd go do one of those Thai Boxing fitness camps in Thailand. Lads that did it in Cork Muai Thai came back swell and really fit.

You'd bump fitness/endurance a mile in a months training. Help with strength more than anything. Lots of sprint carries, sled pulls for distance, loading for time/speed, grace etc with your normal lifting.

Cuddles said:I'll be interested to see how the media handle this moving towards any potential referendum...

Conservatives have said they wish to stay in a reformed EU.
I think the scale of cuts announced since the election are going to make them less popular year by year as they remain in government. With this in mind they are moving forwards the referendum to stand a chance of winning without the referendum 'Out' campaign turning into a massive protest vote against austerity.
