» A log so terrible I wouldn't read (Go to post)06-03-2015 @ 22:34
It's probably the rest that my body has adapted well to months and months of high volume 5-6 days a week strip to training everything heavy once every so often has helped most of all 7 heavy sessions to go

6.3 Friday
Squats
Warmed up
220kg 1 rep very fast
240kg 1 rep again
260kg 1 rep fast
280 kg 4 reps 9.5 rpe new pb first rep very explosive I was 80 percent sure id have got a fourth no real grinders aswell. My depth felt great and was commented on to be very deep but to me it's so long as it's deep enough.
Hb paused squats
240kg 3 reps 9.5
240kg 3 reps 9.5
Although they were near maxes they moved very fast but I don't think I would have got a fourth on either not without breaking my back in process.
Very happy but pissed that I have to think more about openers but a good problem aim at minute will be 280-180-300 openers but is subject to change.

Add to your own record fractionally considering back in the days of weekly attempts of 180 for 5 with your ass off the bench to the injury to now. I think Kit has a point but it will mean more to you because of the past two years.

Good guideline- it tells you to the sorts of volume with the intensity but understand you have not so good days I've trained quite strict in the past with this with modest results but it's a good guide for beginner and intermediate lifters that haven't got that awareness about their body.

3.3 Tuesday
Bench using Texas power bar
160 kg 3 reps 7 rpe very fast
170kg 3 reps 9 rpe
180kg 3 reps 9.5 rpe all time pb
Slingshot bench

All difficult Texas bar moves and spins in your hands but is the thinnest bar in the gym.

155kg 8 reps 8 rpe 4 sets easy enough
Dumbbell flyes and tricep work
Next contest booked 25th April in Sheffield 8 weeks to go 6 weeks of heavy lifting followed by 2 weeks of lighter lifting to peak previously only done a week as a peak and did not end too well training heavy every two weeks and the heavier numbers I lift could work.

23.2 Monday
Squats
220kg 3 reps 6 rpe very fast
240kg 3 reps 7 rpe
250kg 3 reps 7 rpe weight was falling down back
250kg 3 reps 7 rpe very fast out of the whole
High bar paused squat
230kg 3 reps 9.5 rpe
230kg 3 reps 8.5 rpe
Was hoping to do box squats but felt plateaued the session wasn't going to get better.
Back was healed partially able to walk and stand without looking like I should be in a nursing home.
Found out next comp is 25/4 in Sheffield so I believe 8 training weeks of so see how the sessions pan out before deciding on openers.

Back has been in agony struggled to stand up but much better than yesterday. Left pec and shoulder strained couple of days ago next session on Monday ain't making the injuries worse.

18.2 Wednesday
Change of plan guaranteed two spotters for squats tonight so change of plan
Squats
60kg 3x3
100 kg 2 reps
140kg 1 rep back jerked on this rep worth mentioning this warm up
180 kg 1 rep fast
220 kg 1 felt awkward
240 kg 1 rep fast
260 kg 1 rep ok speed
270 kg 4 reps 9/9.5 rpe difficult to judge on fourth rep breathed in and phlem was impacting on breathing so didn't risk a fifth. Video from mates phone on five towns powerlifting facebook page shows that the reps were fast though new pb so can't complain
High bar pause squats
225 kg 3 reps 9.5 rpe
225 kg 3 reps 8.5 rpe
270 effecting the high bar and back jerk didn't help. Since coming home almost crippled but should be ok for next week at least.

17.2 Tuesday
Bench day and a blast from the past training with Bim. Along time overdue.
Bench
160 kg 3 reps 8 rpe
170 kg 3 reps 9 rpe
177.5 kg 3 reps 10 rpe All Time Pb
The bench and bar were unfamilar and took awhile to adjust which I didn't do. The rack was too high for my arms but getting the 177.5 here shows I can do it anywhere I believe in my own gym 180 would have gone without a doubt but 177.5 I'm very happy with.
Slingshot full boar bench
180 kg 1 rep
190 kg 1 rep
205 kg 1 rep
Very similar in regards to set up 190 was very fast and much faster than the other reps. 205 was slow with some slowing 3/4 of the way up but the last inches were easy enough again at my own gym in 2 weeks or so 210 possible and the aim is to attempt for it.
Slingshot close grip bench
150 kg 8 reps 7-8 rpe four sets
This was simple enough nothing too hard and will move up.
All in all very happy with the session out of my comfort zone in the gym but training with Bim who's focused on GBPF masters pushed me quite hard. Next session in a few weeks will be to aim for 180 for 3. Next session will be on Thursday squatting as many reps as I can at 270kg also my birthday should be good.
» Deadlift grip training (Go to post)17-02-2015 @ 13:47
Use a thicker bar, over the years I've used a 34 mm bar not knowing most comp bars are 27-30 mm for deadlift. Years of using a stiff 34mm I now have no grip issues what so ever using a Texas power bar and rep ping weights over 20 kg over my former pb (whilst using the 34 bar).
