» Training big and getting small (Go to post)29-06-2014 @ 14:24
After 6 months of dieting I am finally finished I hit my goal weight and competed in my first strongman comp at Glasgow strength yesterday. I placed second in the under 85kg category and only missed first place by 1 point so I was a little gutted how close I came to winning.

Also 4 days before the comp I caught food poisoning whilst I was on holiday which totally killed me but I'm still happy with my performance.

The events on the day were:

Max log - I went into this feeling really cocky because I've hit 120kg in training and recently I've been hitting 110kg quite comfortably, but on the day I done an opening press of 90kg then for my second I went for 100kg and totally f**ked it coming in last.

Deadlift Medley - There were 3 axles and 1 frame lifting from heaviest to lightest 130kg, 150kg, 170kg and 190kg on the frame. The weights were easy I didn't hesitate to lift and I was quick on my feet but I came second in this event missing out on first but only just.

Farmers and arm over arm - I felt really confident going into this event I'm normally really fast with the farmers even on the heavier weights, but it was the first time I'd done arm over arm. The farmers were 75kg a hand for 20 meters then it was a 200kg arm over arm for 10 meters. I won this event.

Finaly event the atlas stones - The stones were originally meant to weight 85kg on the day but due to lack of resources the weight was put up to 105kg. In this event I had no tacky just some duct tape on my arms. I hit 9 reps in 90 seconds then almost passed out afterwards. Again I placed first in this event.

Overall I was second which I am really happy about but I wish I had been more cautious on the first event. It's still only my first time and I'll take a lot away from this experience. Now its time to get fat again! Grin

So yesterday I trained at Glasgow Strength again and I decided to focus on carrying towards the end but first I just wanted to start with some benching and deadlifting.

Bench press
70kg x 5
100kg x 5
120kg x 5
140kg x 5
150kg x 3
160kg x 2
150kg x 2
140kg x 3

Gravity was totally against me today I went in feeling like a PB was gunna happen but 160 felt pretty heavy in my hands so I didnt want to go any heavier, maybe in a couple of weeks after some much needed rest.

Sumo Deadlifts

70kg x 5
120kg x 5
170kg x 5
200kg x 3
230kg failed attempt
160kg x 12
140kg x 14

I could feel the bar bending and the plates shifting upwards but today just wasnt my day. One day 230 you're mine!

Yoke

40kg for 30m
100kg for 30m
140kg for 30m
200kg for 30m
240kg for 30m

I f**king hate yoke, the second that bar goes along my shoulders my balance just goes to s**t and I'm all over the place. Need to start doing some balance training.

Conans wheel practice with the Yoke

40kg for 30m
60kg for 30m
100kg for 30m
120kg for 30m

Carrying medley practice

120kg for 30m
70kg sand bag for 30m
50kg keg for 30m

Me and the training partner(bodybuilder) thought we'd have a little contest and after having already done this medley for 4 sets. We thought we'd see who was quicker, he got a time of 49.8 seconds and I got a time of 38.6 seconds, I'm pretty pleased.

Even though I missed out on some PBs it was a pretty good session.

This is my 3rd post about my training I've done now and I'm starting to get used to doing it and I'm enjoying it too Happy

So today some drunk guy got into the gym some how and just started screaming on every exercise he was doing then dropped a bar on himself and got kicked out honestly the stuff you see in Scotland. So yeah I wanted to train legs today but I've been having some issues with my right knee so it started off as uncomfortable then when I started to go heavy it just became painful so I stopped... okay I may have done a few other leg exercises but I will rest my legs for a while.

Squats
60kg x 5
60kg x 5
100kg x 5
140kg x 5 - started to hurt at 4 so once I finished the set I just moved on

Front squats
60kg x 5
80kg x 5
90kg x 5
110kg x 3

Leg press
150kg x 5
225kg x 5
275kg x 5
325kg x 5
375kg x 5

Then I just stopped legs altogether so then I just started messing around a bit

Flat bench dummbbell pressing

35kg x 8
40kg x 5
45kg x 5
50kg x 5
50kg x 6
50kg x 6
50kg x 10

Dumbbell clean super set with body weight close grip pull ups with 10 second holds at the top

35kg x 3 per hand
40kg x 3 per hand
45kg x 3 per hand
50kg x 3 per hand
50kg x 3 per hand

Hitting shoulders for the first time in a couple of weeks, once again I had another little twinge.

Log press

50kg x 5
70kg x 5
80kg x 5
90kg x 5
100kg x 3
110kg x 1

Deadlifts

100kg x 5
140kg x 5
160kg x 5
180kg x 5
200kg x 4

Axle press

63kg x 3
73kg x 3
83kg x 3
93kg x 3

Atlas stone

First time with the stones and it didn't go to badly but there was left over tacky on the heavier stones and they've completely torn the skin off my forearms. The platform started at about 5 foot. When everytime I done another set I would add 2 inches so by the end the platform was roughly 5 foot 8.

75kg x 1
100kg x 1
125kg x 1
125kg x 3
100kg x 2
75kg x 2

Farmers walk

15kg(each hand) for 30 meters
35kg for 30 meters
65kg for 30 meters
95kg for 30 meters
115kg for 15 meters

Sled pushing

80kg for 30 meters
130kg for 30 meters
180kg for 30 meters
230kg for 15 meters

I met a weightlifter and when he found out I was a strongman we decided to have a friendly little competition at over head pressing, guess who won Wink

63kg x 5
73kg x 5
83kg x 5
93kg x 5
103kg x 1 I didn't have to do anymore than 1 rep to get the win, but I'm glad because my shoulders were f**ked!

Don't worry I'm almost finished

40kg monster dumbbell and 50kg slamball

5 reps with the dummbbell then 5 with the slam ball for 4 sets

Really good little session I'm quite pleased for once

115kg for 15 meters

Sumo deadlifts
140kg x 5
160kg x 5
180 kg x 5
190kg x 5

I wanted to go heavier my back was feeling good but I thought I shouldn't rush it because I'm still getting back into the technique.

320kg tire flips
6 flips in 29 secs - Back and legs were feeling wrecked so I wasn't surprised it was a pretty slow time.

Main goals for this year:

Get under 85kg
Get in the top 3 positions of my competition
Deadlift my max for reps
Log press 120 for reps
Bench 180/190
Squat max for at least 2 reps

Got my first competition in 3 weeks sitting at 88kg so need to lose a bit of weight but keep hitting the big weights if I want to win. I'm coming back from several injuries and I'm feeling it in training. Damaged my lower back a while ago so I've just started deadlifting again this week.

Short term goals:

Flip 320kg tire in under 20 seconds(sitting at 23 secs)
Hit a 200kg box front squat
Strict curl 80kg for reps

Training tonight Grin
