AndyCoupe said: All CrossFit gyms I've been to have let me pay per session just to do WL. Stupid thread this! So your mates dislike people just because they do crossfit? Maybe it varies by area. I've been told by more than one around here that they don't do casual sessions because it's 'unsafe' even though I'd be more than happy to prove a decent level of competence. I think what they are trying to say is they'd not be making as much money as they want out of me. Even visiting crossfitters get charger $25 where as every other gym that does casual entry is more $10.

My gym has a lot of stupid. No specific thing really bothers me but the cumulative effect does. Today a guy asked me for a spot. I said yes and followed him, he led me to the leg extension machine and asked me to help him lift off. I explained that if it's too low it can be adjusted and showed him how to. He agreed to try it that way and I walked off but he called me back because he still needed a spot. He explained he wanted me to help him lift it once he starts failing then started before I could say much. I did for 2 or 3 reps but he kept going so I left him to do increasingly smaller reps until he couldn't move the weight at all. Usually it's the assisted pull up machine that's the hot bed of stupid. My favourite one if the lady who wouldn't let me work in (it is the only place with a straight bar/handles) because in between her sets she was doing step aerobics on the platforms to reach the bar.

They often have f**king awesome gyms but they won't let you use it unless it's for a PT session or you are a crossfit member. Does my head in that there's a gym practically behind my house with tyres and kegs and nice bars and all sorts of good stuff that isn't even been used most of the day.

I was a charity door knocker for a short time. It's not really about content of what you say. You get them agreeing that the problem is awful then assume they will give you money and transfer into signing them up without really asking them. Most people will see what you are doing and slam the breaks but you're trying to find those who don't. Once they realise what's going on it's gone far enough that they feel like they'd be being a dick for saying no so don't. You can go around asking people if they'd like to donate but you'd be lucky to sign up 1 per week.
» Pros and cons of multi category strongman comps (Go to post) | 07-05-2014 @ 14:56
Post Edited: 07.05.2014 @ 14:58 PM by blinki I think it's mainly a trade off between spectators being able to follow it and opportunities for competitors. I watched a comp with 7 categories. It allowed a wider of variety of guys to compete and if it wasn't that broad there wouldn't have just been other comps because of limited time and resources. As someone who's U80 and not very good that's great to see because there's not much else I could enter. It was well run (a lot due to capping numbers which made it a bit uncompetitive with most categories having 3 guys) but it's too much information to keep a sense of how well everyone is doing. You'd give yourself a headache trying to keep track of it as a comp so I watched it as more of a demonstration. 7 is a bit extreme but 1 category can be tricky to follow without the score card in front of you so even 2 can be difficult, especially if you want to draw in more casual fans who are less familiar with the scoring.

B&B out of Glasgow but near a train station? Trains around Lanarkshire are pretty good and even with the commute I'd imagine you'd save a lot of money on £700
» Interview with Brian Shaw (Go to post) | 23-04-2014 @ 05:48
I've always found Shaw quite likeable but I agree that question doesn't come across too well. He sounds as if he feels he should be held in the same regard as Z. It's unflattering for anyone to seem so concerned about their status but he's also still a good few years from having earned it. Maybe he was having a bad day though I'd have thought his sponsors would be careful to edit more favourably. |
