kirkynick said:Aah, OK! Suppose it gets people motivated to compete if they know they can get to compete in a national contest.

How many members does the BDFPA have nowadays?

That's one side of the argument- make it seem accessible. Other side is national qualification should be high enough to be more of an achievement.

'almost 600' as of August but in the region of 300 entries for the single lift when I looked at the list (double counting anyone who did two lifts). Given qualification isn't that low and not everyone will travel I think membership must be a fair bit higher now

Come om John, spill the beans?Tongue

The number of lifter was a bit absurd so it took years to get through everyone. Pretty much everyone would agree qualifying needs to go up but then it'd be silly relative to international levels.

Separate days per lift or for age or weight are probably needed in future.

Apparently not, wasn't there but folk mentioned stuff that would imply not on the FB

Can't help but think the lighting is doing his arm a lot of favours there. But I guess there's a point where you're muscles are big enough to still be pretty noticeable under a fair bit fat.
» Gyms in sydney oz (Go to post)05-02-2015 @ 13:19
My impression is PCT don't make you stick to a programme, it's more they offer it.

If PCT is a pain to get to then the chain gyms in Oz are actually ok. I used Anytime Fitness whilst there and they hall have a couple of rack and will let you deadlift. Bar quality varies, the ones with Aussie Barbels are better than the generic ones. I think I particularly liked the one in Glebe

I got my ticket right away, learned my lesson from Britian's

Benni won't let his record go without a good fight, still can't see him beating Ed but don't think you could ever count him out. Maybe Bolton will try again with proper use of straps? Last years got to be motivation for him though not sure I can see him keeping up with Ed and Benni

Hi Blinki,
One height for all competitors on the squat, while this does give an advantage to the shorter guys they certainly lose out when it comes to events like stone loading. It will also be a regular old barbell.
Sandbag just needs to be carried across the line, no loading.
The log is done in 5kg increments, you can skip as many lifts as you like. last man standing style.
Tacky allowed for stones.

Thanks

I'd have voted no height adjustment on squat for that reason, evens it out with stones plus I'd bet it's be a pain to adjust in between so many competitor
