Makes sense - i will prob only use it on deadlifts in the gym and cant say im really arsed about getting powder on the floor etc. Then ill invest in some blocks for then im around people that matter - i think i am prob one of the only people who train deads at my gym and its far from a leisure club.

Joni said: i prefer blocks. the chal quality is better, it spreads on your hands in much better way than chalk balls. chalk powder is the worst IMO - just plainly not convenient. And chalk blocks are more hardcore and you will get immediate respect as a proper lifter when you pull out your block. Oh bo***cks - ive just ordered a bag of chalk powder. Was only £6 so might just order a block too then i can try both.

Cheers for that - i take it the meaurements on the farmers is based on it being sat on the ground.

After speaking to my brother in law yesterday who is a welder & fabricator, he said that he could make me some strongman equipment no problem. He is going to make me the following but wanted to check whether there are any specific measurements, distances between handles or anything else i need to consider to get them as close to what i would be using at a competition. Farmers Walk Log Yoke Like i say, i want to try and get them as close to competition standard as possible.

The guy who i got this one of says he can get more so i may invest in a couple more like youve suggested. I am trying to get as much equipment together as possible so that when i return from my holiday i can start event training at a weekend. I part filled it with water yesterday and weighed it at 55kgs, had a quick play around pressing it over my head but have been busy do not really had chance to properly train with it.

Probably a stupid question but i am new to the world of strongman - should i be aiming for a certain weight (Weight of the barrel) bearing in mind i am aiming to compete in U90kgs next year. Also, is there a standard height for the loading events?

As above, managed to get hold of an aluminium beer barrel that can hold 80 pints so i thought that would be a good start to my strongman equipment collection. I am planning on getting a log & a couple of atlas stones in the next couple of months but in the meantime i plan on filling the barrel with either sand or water and pressing above my head and walking with it over a 30m distance. Any suggestion how else i could make use of it???

Post Edited: 27.03.2009 @ 20:34 PM by richards9876 Cheers guys - i can only train Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Sunday because i am at college 2 nights per week along with juggling a full time job.I finish college at the end of June for the summer so am going to start to incorporate some event training them on a regular basis. For the time being i am going to try and acquire some equipment and get down to Marks place in Blackburn. Also, my reason for splitting my chest and shoulders sessions were that i was exhausting myself on chest then not managing as much on shoulders. |
