Lots of deadlifting this evening to work my weaknesses,

1) Conventional Deadlifts
W/U to 150x3
W/S 5x3 @ 170

2) Snatch Grip Deadlifts 3x8 @ 100

3) Romanian Deadlifts 3x8 @ 100
» Anybody train at 'the farm' (Go to post)03-06-2014 @ 16:39
Yeah as Malc mentioned above there quite a few farm lifters on Sugden including myself.

I cant rate the farm highly enough as a place to train! You will be made more than welcome, other than a bit of banter from Pete (very, very, very old bloke who trains there, but he is a good laugh), and yes I dont think the others confirmed above first session is still free, £2-50 per session thereafter.

Had a cracking session this morning with James, we were joined by Mark so it was a right laugh, as well as some serious training.

1) NGP - 25 reps

2) Bench
W/U to 110x3
W/S 125 x 3/3/3/3/5 - pushed it a bit on last set

Then the guys wanted to try their slingshots, so I had a go for a couple sets to end the session, I did 130x10, then 140x8 - Never been so out of breath after a bench set!

Sounds nice, will come back pretty tanned from that. Imagine you will have lost weight in the heat, or have you been eating tonnes lol?

Could well be to be honest, I had better get planning 3x bodyweight...... I will leave the coach for now, I don't think I'm Petes type lol. I'm going to have to work harder on my deadlifts, as I'm fairly happy with progress on the other 2.

Hope the holiday is going well.

Definitely Malc, competition has pushed us all on. You will join the battle soon enough, Stewart is still the man in the lead, just, but the rest of us are coming for him.

Thanks Malc, feeling the pressure of competition with James and Mark, really pushing me on.

Fairly average session at the farm this evening for myself, however, congratulations has to go to Big James, pulled a 250 deadlift! Not easy, but a solid lift! Would appear with my deadlift hitting a wall, I have lost ground to Mark and James, so I have work to do. Starting with hopefully getting a new bar in the next couple of weeks, the huge bend in mine is getting annoying, after nearly 4 years its served its time.

Anyway, session as follows

1) Squats
W/U to 155x3
W/S 175, 180, 175 x 3

2) Deadlifts
W/U to 190x3
W/S 3x3 @ 210 - Forms really a bit off lately, I find myself looking down etc. which doesn't contribute to the picturesque deadlift form I was producing just months ago.

Lastly Frank aka bonecrusher has been crowned as the strongest back in the gym winning the hex bar with around 303kg, topping that so I'm told he is engaged so congratulations there as well.

Hectic week this week, so only just got round to updating my log, had a quick deadlift session Tuesday, callouses just about held out, but I was running short on time so dropped the assistance.

1) Deadlifts
W/U to 200x2
W/S 6x1 @ 230, 6x2 @ 180

Then yesterday evening I squeezed in a quick bench session as follows:

1) NGP 25 reps

2) Bench
W/U to 70x5
Pause - 90, 105, 122.5 x 3, 3x1 @ 137.5 (Not the best pauses I have ever done, but they will do for now, at that weight I can live with the odd bad session) then 130 x 2
T&G 1x8 @ 107.5 (wasn't feeling that good so didn't bother with another couple sets)

3) Cable Rows 3x18 @ 50

Very disappointed to see this, I like reading your weekly training updates.

Thank you Malc, much appreciated, your up there as difficult to impress with Kev and Stewart don't worry, it wasn't that long ago you were squatting 200 plus for fun, and wont be to long till your back there.
» Road to the British (Go to post)24-05-2014 @ 06:35
Thanks Ian, much appreciated.

Yes I will have to look into the knee sleeves, I think I will need to invest in a new bar first though. Will keep the tights though, I don't fancy training in my leotard every week like Kev, so that just helps to give an accurate idea of depth.

You maybe right about the 220kg, although it wont be at the All England I wouldn't have thought, as at the least I want to get 200 on the board in competition as that's a pretty big milestone, so maybe something over 200 will be a third attempt all being well.

Good session this evening, between the bench video and the squats tonight, for the first time since I met them, I think I may well have impressed Stewart and Kevin so I'm definitely over the moon with that.

When a world record breaking deadlifter, and perhaps the most consistent guy I know (Stewart totalling over 600 3 times a week)tells you your doing well, you know something is going right.

1) Squats
W/U to 165x3
W/S 187.5x3, 192.5x3, 187.5x3 - The first couple were slipping about on my back so made it a bit tougher, but James assures me depth was still good, so definitely going to plan for the All England.

2) Hip Thrusts 5x10 @ 100
» The Log of the Lurking One! (Go to post)23-05-2014 @ 20:15
Good effort Malc, I'm obviously a bit slow noticing your log had been resurrected.

Squat and Deadlift both looked good this evening, didn't see the bench, but wouldn't worry about it. Probably just knackered from week back training.

Although, have just noticed your bodyweight, 99.9kg! Your nearly 3kg lighter than me, shows what you have achieved mate, who would have thought that from when I met you nearly 4 years ago at 80kg that you would be calling me fatty now Happy

Should mention in case it wasn't clear above my bench was done WITHOUT a slingshot, I don't really want to get one, I'm happy with current progress Happy

I used a small elbow sleeve thing that seems to take the pressure off a little bit.

Unfortunately I asked Stewart and Kev etc whether they get pain in there elbow squating, seems they do, but just live with it.

Whatever you do lots of benching/squating is going to give you tendonitis etc at some point which is difficult to avoid, so if an elbow sleeve helps it in training I'm all good with that.

However, that being said that's not an excuse for you to ignore shoulder pain, as that's caused by an imbalance in the muscle.
