Very happy with the days events, in a field of 12, all but 2 dwarfed me muscle wise, but I did well I think, and took 3rd, missed second by 1 point Unhappy

Event 1 - Zercher lift - did 210kg for joint second

Event 2 - 60 log, 70 log, 80 axel, reps in 75 secs, did 9 again for joint second.

Event 3 - Loading race, 35, 40, 50, 60, 80 sand bags taken down a 20 metre course and dump over 4ft bar. Did it all in 1 min dead, for 3rd ( 1st was 56 secs, 2nd 59 secs) other than us, no other competitor could do all 5 sacks.

Event 4 - Arm over arm, pull a 150kg sled down a 20 metre course, then drag it back. I decimated the field on this completing it in 30 secs, next guys were in the 50's

Event 5 - 85kg (per hand) Farmers 40 metre course with turn, I think I was 3rd with just over 15 secs, next guys were in the early 14's I may have been 4th here not sure.

Event 6 - Was dropped due to time constraints, disappointing as this was a nailed on win, and would have taken second.

Good day all round in my first ever strongman competition.

Oh, I did train at the farm on Friday but really wasn't worth a post, I set a lift of month being a 111kg clean, but other than that was resting.

Fair enough, dont want to be down there to often lol, cya tomorrow.

Ok, have to concede on that, James told me it was on some poster, I haven't ever seen it, but will take his word for it. Think we should make the change for next year, as no doubt everyone's best deadlift will be on the platform.

I will try some cleans tomorrow, as will squat but give the deadlift a miss to rest for the comp. I think I did 111 or something last year.

Yeah the pause squats were as low as possible, virtually sat on the floor, just focused on staying nicely upright and tight.

No joy on the VIP ticket yet, you will be alright, just go to the front.

How come you were videoing your box squats?
» Mark Whiteman Training Journal (Go to post)04-09-2013 @ 22:25
Cheers Ian, I think these pause squats are pretty good, you tried them?

Btw my retirement from lift of the month didn't last long, a week, love it to much, Project Gates carries on for another month lol.

Although next year, I think we should add in a concession for each 3 lifts at the All England to be count towards the total.

Previous post was supposed to be 3/9/13 anyway, todays session looks like nothing, but in time will be effective. Added in paused squats, 2 sec pause at the bottom, start light build from there.

1) Back Squats Paused
80 5 x 5

2) Front Squats
60 5 x 5

3) Hip Thrusts
90 5 x 10

As I said looks like nothing, but believe it or not felt like a good session.

Reasonable session this evening,

1) NG Pull Ups +13 3/4 (Going up 1 1/4 each week, 2.5 was to much) 10 x 3

2) Bench Press
W/U to 65 x 8
85 x 12/12/11 (Close to getting 3 x 12)

3) Event Practice for Sunday - Overhead hold (Bar weight 50kg then 2 x 10 attached via bungees) the event is bar weight 50kg then 2 tires attached using rope to create instability) - Overhead hold for time.

4) Inverted Rows 3 x 15

I see, what gave you this VIP status then? (although to get it for £3 you book on there site, otherwise its £5 on door)

I'm not sure any of that can be guaranteed lol, I have no idea what food will be available, I imagine there will be something, silly not to cash in a bit.

Lol apparently so, nice girl, incredible deadlift and bench ability.

This is true, hopefully I will do ok, I hope I can shave them 5 secs off just being fresh, and hopefully being a little more aggressive chucking the lighter bags over.

But using Stewart as a barometer, he struggled on the sacks, and being bigger and stronger than I am, like many of the competitors, (there are some big guys) I think I should at least be competitive.

£3 for a man of your financial muscle, sure you can scrape it together. I'm really hoping I don't just completely get my ass kicked, as at present there is James, Sue (James wife), Dave Brown, and possibly Stewart coming so don't want to disappoint.

Last practice session at PTS prior to comp, so was down with Stewart from the farm, doing loading race, and log lift

1) Loading Race (5 sandbags, 40, 45, 50, 60, 80kg to be carried 20 metres and dumped over a 4ft bar)

2x untimed practice runs to get technique

1 x timed run 80 seconds, so need to shave 5 secs off, but some adrenaline, no runs before it, will obviously make a difference.

2) Overhead Medley (60 & 70 Logs, 80 Axel to be done in succession for max reps, i.e. 60,70,80,60....)

Practice runs 3 x 3

2 x Timed Runs 8 reps both times, so should be competitive at worst.

3) Did some block pulls with Faye who runs it, nothing special went up to 210 x 5, but was showing her the lift.

At the farm this evening, reasonable nights lifting

1) Squats
W/U to 130 x 3
Work Sets - 3 x 5 @ 150

2) Deadlifts
W/U to 170 x 3
Work Sets - 3 x 5 @ 190

3) High Box Squats (still tweaking these, to get them roughly where my deadlift starts)
110 x 10, 130 x 10, 150 x 10

4) Hip Thrusts
3 x 15 @ 80kg

I don't get why you wont let it go? So if me or James come in and hitch up 250 or 230 respectively, that counts.

But a lift done at our clubs annual competition that's refereed by 3 qualified people doesn't count?

There isn't a lot of logic there.

I wouldn't change the competition I think its good, however I would have both the squat and the deadlift be able to be done on the platform, for one then there is a definitive answer whether its a good lift, rather than you judging from 100 yards away Happy
» Training Log - 3. (Go to post)29-08-2013 @ 18:59
Lmao your such a dick sometimes Ian, its a legitimate lift, done in competition at OUR gym. I want to see a copy of these rules.

In any case, your outvoted, Kev, Pete, and Stewart all think it should count, as its the lift of the month, done at our club, and ref'ed for good measure.

I'm not going to attempt 240 tomorrow though I don't think, competition next week.
» Training Log - 3. (Go to post)29-08-2013 @ 13:19
I'm sure I will still beat you even with the deduction Happy

Presumably next months lift of the month is the clean given your practicing?

I think the assistance people do is interesting, e.g. my current deadlift improvements (i.e. the 240 lift of the month, done at the FARM in competition) was down to hip thrusts, good mornings and upper back work.

Although I agree if someones idea of assistance is curls thats pretty useless and boring.

Pretty solid session tonight, happy with the Zerchers, its game on for sure.

1) NG Pull Ups 10 x 3 @ +12.5kg, then 8 reps with nothing straight after last set

2) Zercher's
W/U to 160 x 2
Big set of 5 @ 180kg - BOOM

3) Bench Press
W/U to 65 x 5
Work Sets 3 x 10 @ 85kg

4) Inverted Rows 3 x 12

5) Bicep Curls 3 x 8 @ 35kg

Big in parts of France, the gym where you go on holiday presumably.

Why don't you list the assistance stuff you did? Dumbbell bench and bent over rows wasn't it?
