Yes and no. There is one 'world's strongest man' currently but there used to be WSM and the IFSA, long story but once upon a time they worked together fell out went their separate ways and the IFSA folded. At national level you have: BSM, Uk's strongest man, Britains most powerful, Britians Natural strongest man amongst others.

Ah right, that kind of answers my question. I just thought there was one national comp, and that one comp granted entry to ESM, and then to WSM etc. Clearly need to brush up on my strongman knowledge!
» Strongman entry fees (Go to post)21-04-2013 @ 12:20
lol but surely since there is only ONE "World's Strongest Man" competition, there would only be one route to it via one "federation"? And this theoretical federation would use the exact same rules that WSM uses and has been using for years?

This is a question that keeps cropping up and for one reason or another people seem to object to this idea. Is this not all part of evolution of sport.
I know one promoter was trying to set one up for this year but there seemed to be a lot of negativity around it.

What do people have against it? (No need to go in to detail, don't want to derail thread)

Surely if these comps were ran as proposed i.e. in order for the promoter to make money, then loaders and helpers would be paid as part of this.

Also, I don't know much about strongman, but wouldn't a lot of these problems be made simpler if there was a UK governing body for the sport? What are the main difficulties with setting one up?

They have the Woking Power club around there don't they?

Is it necessary for there to be a "stomp" on the jerk? I thought the ideal technicque is for the feet to glide along the platform?

On a separate note, how much harder do you find clean deads compared to regular deads youngy?

A great town!
I actually live in Lincoln now, so train at Evolution gym there. On rare occasions that I get back to Scunny and train its at Force 10. Yourself?

Haha I have a hard time convincing others about that point when they find out where I come from!

I actually used to train at Freaky's as it was about 5 minutes from my house. Then I went off to uni and stayed down in London once I started my job. Now whenever I go back home (which is rarely I must admit) I just go to Resolution in south park industrial estate - it's not a great gym (plates being about 12' diameter for a start!!) but that's where my mates train.

May give that Force 10 gym a go next time though, I honestly had no idea there were any proper lifters in the town. Can't remember the last time I saw more than a quarter squat from anybody there lol.
