Trained Friday and Saturday. Had to take Sunday off and did a session today. Was pretty tired today and felt tight, which always puts me off a little. I was disapointed at the end of this but looking back it probably wasn't that bad really. Nitpicking my technique again I think, which is probably making me a bit over-critical.

Paused Snatch:
40 x 3
50 x 2
60 x 2
70 x 2
80 x 1
85 x 1
90 x 1
92.5 x 1
95 x miss x 2

Power Clean and Jerk
60 x 1
80 x 1
90 x 1
100 x 1
102.5 x 1
105 x 1
107.5 x 1
110 x 1 (full clean)

Front Squats
60 x 3
100 x 2
120 x 2
130 x 2
140 x 2

Snatch Grip Deadlifts
100 x 3
140 x 2
160 x 2
180 x 2

The first single on 95 I caught but couldn't hold and the second was similar but I'd caught it on bent arms (probably not enough height). As the weight got to 92.5-95 I felt like I was trying to swing it rather than extend fully, and my feet were moving in and not out when catching above 90 for some reason. But still, most I've done on this in a while so I shouldn't be that critical.

Despite my pull feeling a bit s**t my jerk is feeling good. I've no doubt that I will jerk anything that I will clean right now.. I can also tell that my leg strength is slowly building again; the front squats felt like a dead weight yet they moved really well.

Hopefully the pull will turn around soon enough.

Hope this helps...

Ha! Sadly I know this feeling. There is quite the chance that when she trained today, my better half deadlifted my clean and jerk weights.

Angry

Anyway. Will keep plugging away and trying to not be s**t, but snatching is my nemesis it seems.

Mixed bag really:

Front squats
60 x 3
100 x 3
120 x 2
130 x 2
140 x 1
147.5 x 2 (recent pb)
140 x 2

Snatch
40 x 3
50 x 3
60 x 2
70 x 2
80 x 1
85 x 1
90 x 1
92.5 x miss
87.5 x 1, 1
82.5 x 2 x 2

Clean and Jerk
60 x 2
80 x 1
100 x 1
110 x 1
115 x 1
120 x 1
110 x 2 + 1 x 2

Then did a glute circuit and some stretches.

Snatch has gone to pieces. I'm working on a tip Chris gave me last session. Basically I am inconsistent from the floor to above my knee when the weight gets heavy (I've got weirdly long f*cking, awkward legs), which makes my first pull tricky and sometimes forward. I asked Chris how he thinks about his first pulls last session. Anyway, crux of it, Chris lifts by focusing on two things: keeping his arse down as he prizes the bar off the floor, and gets his weight towards his heels ASAP. I worked on thinking of lifting this way today and it does change the pull. I probably need a few reps with this in my head really. Seemed OK on clean and jerk although I wasn't moving my feet much for some reason.

Owen. No mate, Chris works on a Friday so wouldn't be able to make it.

I may be a gym fanny but I am no idiot and know when to take good advices.

Hmmm,

Sorry, I do not think that Doctors, medical staff or forces staff are overpaid. I tend to think that each is undervalued to an extent, actually. Each role requires specific and difficult training, character traits and importantly, responsibilities that require 100% commitment to their vocation.

While she was never a Doctor, my Mother was/is a nurse and then a sister, and having growing up and seen her come home absolutely shattered and virtually traumatised at the loss of a patient, or the circumstances that some patients face, then I have nothing but admiration for any front-line staff who have to deal with such difficulties day-in-day out.

With roles such as these you are dealing with life, and there is no responsibility that is greater. Yep, Drs can get paid a lot of money and experience some fantastic benefits, but so too can people in lots of other professions and sectors too. In each example, those benefits do not come for free and are the product of a ton of graft. With roles like this your do not have a job, you are your job.

Pressing felt surprisingly strong today and I had a bit of a funny revelation, which I shall reveal after:

Strict Press, paused (supersetted with lower traps)

50 x 3
60 x 3
70 x 3
80 x 4 x 6 (first 4 sets were really easy)

Close grip bench, paused
60 x 3
80 x 3
100 x 5 (really easy)
105 x 5 (still pretty easy but fatigue was in so left it there)
90 x 10

Then I did a whole bunch of curls, triceps, upper back and stuff for my hips that nobody wants to read about and I don't want to admit to doing and it was at this time that I had a thought.

So, the sessions where I am not doing weightlifting I tend to do at commercial gym that's near to where I live. The missus goes there - I meet her there after work. I'd done all of my pressing today and was sat on bench next to the squat rack watching her train and I got a little reflective. As I was doing a set of concentration curls (yep!), she was grinding out multiple triples on the front squat and it was at this point that I had a thought.

Is my missus more hardcore than me?

I moved onto cable pressdowns and then she did some strict pressing, working up to a heavy single; then set of five and then a back-off set for reps, all with significant weight. Later, I did some weighted clamshell exercises for my glutes and I noticed that she was supersetting handstand pressups and pullups (unassisted).

F***k!

Awesome news mate. Lots of good stuff happening for you. Weird what happens when you work hard eh?

You know my feeling on this lol, have you seen the team sheffield Hallam plates we're getting?

That I do. Typically these people also seem to have a preference for Inov8 trainers, skins and foam rollers. They also spend most of their "smashing", "flossing", "distracting" and practicing voodoo and other black magic it seems. Not sure about the last one if I am honest but I'm pretty sure I heard somebody say he was gonna voodoo some s**t up last week.

Youth of today. FML.

Yeah seen the plates. They look well good. Shame that 99% of people that use the facility have no idea what they have access to. Its going to be one of the most well equipped (in terms of platforms, bars, etc,) places in the country.

Gym will be closed next week so let me know if you want to train in A005.

OwenL said:To be fair mate, I've just took it upon myself to take a step, back from all my rehab prehab stuff. It just builds up and I end up warming up in a morning, before a session, cooling down then stretching on a night. It's a nightmare, then I get arsey if I mess my routine up. I'm going to still do my warm ups and some stuff on my off days. But I want to prioritise my weightlifting and getting the most from my sessions. I think I'm in a good position now to just maintain my flexibility and improve my lifting & strength. I don't want to go into a session tired

But yes I agree on your exercises thing. It'll be stuff like that I do on my off days. Depending on how arsed I can be/what hurts Happy

You can over do that stuff mate. I see people all the time spending an hour doing corrective stuff and then seemingly forgetting to train. If you pick the right exercises your strength work should be sort of corrective in any case. I'd see most of that stuff as maintenance and just have a few go-to exercises that you need to do regularly, rather than go over the top.

Squats
60 x 3
100 x 3
120 x 3
130 x 2
140 x 1
150 x 1
160 x 3

165 x 1
150 x 3

Snatch
40 x 3 x 2
50 x 2
60 x 2
70 x 2
80 x 1
85 x 1
90 x 1
92.5 x miss x 3 (pull had gone, ffs)

80 x 2
82.5 x 2
85 x 2

Clean and Jerk
60 x 2
80 x 1
90 x 1
100 x 1
110 x 1
115 x 1

105 x 2 + 1
110 x 2 + 1

Jerk Dips
100 x 3
130 x 3
150 x 3
170 x 3
180 x 3
190 x 3

Completely forgot how to pull today. My god why does that happen? The head knows what you want to do but the inner t**t stops you from doing it. Could feel myself lifting the bar straight from the floor but for some reason I couldn't stop myself from doing it. Every miss at 92.5 the bar came straight and then went around the knees, but up to that they were fine. Cleans were then a bit similar but jerks were actually really good. Abs are a big weak-point I think. Couldn't create any tightness on squats or cleans. Need to work on that. I haven't used a belt in a long time but used to get a good 10kg or so from them. Same old problem today. If I had some form of belt on squats would be really easy I suspect.
